Caliper calibration is a key step in ensuring measurement accuracy
Date: 2025-06-24Read: 24
Caliper calibration is a key step in ensuring measurement accuracy. Through rigorous calibration processes and standardized operating methods, the measurement accuracy of calipers can be effectively improved, providing reliable measurement data support for various tasks.
The following is an introduction to the relevant knowledge about caliper calibration:
1、 Preparation before calibration
1. Cleaning the caliper: Use a clean soft cloth to gently wipe the measuring surface, body, scale, and other parts of the caliper to remove dust, oil, and impurities, ensuring that the surface of the caliper is clean to avoid affecting the accuracy of calibration.
2. Check the appearance of the caliper: Check whether the caliper is damaged, such as deformation of the ruler frame, wear of the measuring claw, blurred scale, etc. If there is obvious damage, it should be repaired or replaced in a timely manner, as damaged calipers may not be accurately calibrated.
3. Prepare calibration tools: Select appropriate calibration tools based on the type and accuracy requirements of the caliper, such as gauge blocks, standard calipers, micrometers, etc. Ensure that the accuracy of the calibration tool is higher than that of the calibrated caliper, and that it has been calibrated by a professional organization and is within its validity period.
2、 Calibration steps
1. Zero calibration: For vernier calipers, tightly fit the measuring claws and check whether the zero scale line on the vernier is aligned with the zero scale line on the main ruler. If it is not aligned, it can be adjusted by adjusting the fine adjustment device on the ruler frame or tapping the ruler frame; For digital calipers, after turning on the power, check if the reading on the display screen is zero. If it is not zero, press the reset button to reset it.
2. Range calibration: Use standard measuring blocks or calipers to select several typical dimensions within the measuring range of the caliper and measure them separately. Close the measuring claws of the caliper to the standard gauge block or the measuring surface of the standard caliper, then read the reading of the caliper, compare it with the actual size of the standard gauge block or standard caliper, and calculate the deviation value.
3、 Processing after calibration
1. Recording and identification: Detailed record of the calibration date, calibration personnel, calibration data, calibration results, and other information of the caliper, and affix a qualified label on the calibrated caliper, indicating the validity period; For calipers that fail calibration, the reason for the failure should be indicated and repaired or scrapped.
2. Regular review: Based on the frequency of use and accuracy requirements of the caliper, establish a reasonable review cycle and regularly recalibrate the caliper to ensure its long-term accuracy.
