The Horbia carbon sulfur analyzer, as a core equipment in the field of metal material detection, achieves high-precision quantitative analysis of carbon and sulfur elements in samples such as steel and alloys through high-frequency induction furnace combustion and infrared detection technology. The operating procedures cover four major aspects: equipment preparation, sample processing, analysis execution, and maintenance, ensuring that the test results comply with ISO 9556 and GB/T 223 standards.

1、 Equipment preparation and calibration
1. Power on preheating: After starting the instrument power supply, the preheating time should be ≥ 30 minutes to ensure that the temperature of the high-frequency induction furnace is stable at 2000-2500 ℃. Synchronize the oxygen supply system, adjust the pressure to 0.04MPa, and calibrate the baseline of the carbon sulfur detection tank through the "zero" function.
2. Standard curve calibration: Use a primary standard substance (such as GBW01301a steel standard sample) for three-point calibration. Taking standard samples with carbon and sulfur contents of 0.05%, 0.5%, and 2.0% as examples, calibration curves were generated using an automatic titration system to ensure a linear correlation coefficient R2 ≥ 0.999.
2、 Sample processing and loading
1. Sample preparation: Grind the solid sample to below 200 mesh, and wrap the powder sample with tin foil (thickness ≤ 0.1mm) to prevent splashing. When weighing 0.5g of the sample, use an electronic balance with an accuracy of 0.1mg and repeat the weighing 3 times, with an error of ≤ 0.05%.
2. Flux addition: Lay 0.3g silicon molybdenum powder at the bottom of the crucible, then add the sample and 0.5g pure iron flux. For high alloy steel samples, an additional 0.2g of tungsten particles need to be added to promote combustion.
3、 Analysis execution and result judgment
1. Combustion analysis: After clicking the "Start" button, the high-frequency furnace ignites an arc at a frequency of 20MHz, and the combustion time is controlled within 45-60 seconds. During the combustion process, the infrared detector monitors the characteristic absorption peaks of CO2 and SO2 in real time (with wavelengths of 4.26 μ m and 7.4 μ m, respectively), and the data acquisition frequency reaches 100Hz.
2. Result calculation
After the instrument automatically deducts the blank value, the content is calculated using the formula:
① Carbon content (%)=(standard carbon content/standard titration volume) x sample titration volume
② Sulfur content (%)=(standard sulfur content/standard titration volume) x sample titration volume
③ Repeatability requirement: When the carbon content is ≤ 0.02%, RSD≤5%; When the sulfur content is ≤ 0.005%, RSD≤8%。
4、 Maintenance and troubleshooting
1. Daily maintenance: After daily experiments, clean the accumulated dust in the combustion chamber and replace the dust removal filter paper. Check the sealing of the oxygen pressure reducing valve weekly and use a leak detector to confirm that there are no bubbles or leaks.
2. Common troubleshooting
① Low carbon result: Check if the carbon absorption solution is turbid (normally light blue), replace and recalibrate if necessary.
② Sulfur result fluctuation: Confirm whether the temperature of the sulfur detection tank is stable at 110 ℃. If the deviation is greater than ± 2 ℃, calibrate the temperature control system.
The Horbia carbon sulfur analyzer controls the detection error within ± 0.002% carbon and ± 0.0005% sulfur through standardized operating procedures. Operators need to undergo professional training and hold certification before taking up their posts, and regularly participate in equipment comparison experiments (such as CNAS proficiency testing) to ensure the traceability of analysis results.
