The melt flow rate tester is a precision instrument used to measure the flow properties of high polymer materials such as thermoplastic and rubber in a high-temperature molten state. Its principle is based on simulating the actual molten state of the material during processing, and quantifying the flowability of the material by measuring the mass or volume of the extruded melt per unit time.
1、 Working principle: Simulate machining, quantify flow
Melting and Extrusion
The testing machine heats the material to be tested to a specified temperature (usually 100 ℃ or 400 ℃) through a heating furnace to achieve a molten state. Under the specified load, the melt is extruded through a standard capillary die.
Data Collection and Calculation
Quality method: Measure the mass of the extruded melt within 10 minutes, using the formula:

Volume method: Real time monitoring of melt volume changes through piston displacement sensors, calculating the volume extruded per unit time (unit: cm ³/10min). This method has higher accuracy, especially suitable for high melting point and low fluidity materials.
core component
Including heating furnace, temperature control system, load device, cutting device, and measurement system. Modern equipment is often equipped with automatic temperature control, automatic cutting, data storage, and printing functions to improve testing efficiency and accuracy.
2、 Application areas: covering the entire industry chain
Plastic processing industry
Process optimization: By measuring the MFR value, select raw materials suitable for injection molding, extrusion and other processes.
Quality control: Monitor the MFR consistency of different batches of raw materials to ensure stable product quality. If the MFR difference is too large, it may be necessary to adjust the formula or re mix the ingredients.
Rubber products industry
Evaluate the processing performance of rubber materials, predict extrusion speed and molding effect, optimize production parameters to reduce scrap rate.
Chemical fiber industry
Study the structural factors of polymers, optimize fiber preparation processes, and improve fiber properties.
Petrochemical industry
Evaluate the flowability of materials such as polyethylene and polypropylene, guide production process optimization and product design.
Materials Science Research
Analyze the rheological properties and molecular structure of materials to provide data support for the development of new materials.
Quality Control and Certification
As an important basis for material incoming inspection, ensure that raw materials meet production requirements.
Expansion of application areas
Penetrating from traditional industries (plastics, rubber) to emerging fields (automotive interior parts, electronic casings, medical plastics) has become a key tool for ensuring product quality and improving production efficiency.
