How to correctly assemble an in-situ Raman electrolytic cell
Date: 2025-11-08Read: 1
In situ Raman electrolytic cellIt is an experimental device used for the combination of electrochemistry and spectroscopic analysis, mainly used to study the material changes during electrochemical reaction processes. It can track subtle changes in chemical bonds between the electrode surface and the electrolyte in real time by detecting Raman shift, peak intensity, and peak shape changes.
Main applications:
In situ Raman electrolysis cells are widely used in the research of aqueous batteries, such as zinc ion batteries, for detecting phase transitions of electrode materials, reconstruction of interface electrolyte structures, and generation and transformation of reaction intermediates. In addition, it is also suitable for in-situ Raman observation of electrodes in batteries such as sodium batteries, lithium batteries, and zinc batteries.
Core assembly steps:
Sample installation: Use a hex wrench to unscrew the screws at the bottom of the device and remove the glassy carbon electrode. Drop the liquid sample onto a glassy carbon sheet, or use tweezers to place the solid sample into the cell, then reinsert the glassy carbon electrode and tighten the screw. For powder samples, it is usually necessary to prepare a slurry and apply it onto a conductive substrate.
Installation of electrodes: Install silver chloride electrode (reference electrode) and counter electrode. Ensure that the conductive sheet (such as copper tape) is placed in the middle of the electrode and secured with a rubber gasket to prevent leakage.
Connecting pipelines: Use PU pipes to sequentially connect the storage tank, peristaltic pump, and tank body, forming a closed electrolyte circulation loop.
Sealing and testing: Install the sealing ring and upper cover, ensure that all holes are aligned, and tighten the screws. Use a multimeter to check if the voltage is stable and normal. After confirming that there is no leakage, the test can be carried out.
Notes:
Sealing: All joints need to be sealed with rubber rings to prevent electrolyte leakage.
Signal quality: If there is weak or no Raman signal, it is necessary to check the optical path (such as laser focusing, window contamination) and sample (such as electrode surface condition, electrolyte concentration).
Test preparation: After assembly, it is recommended to let it stand for 3 hours before starting the test to ensure system stability.
