The working principle and composition of EO and ECH residue detectors
Date: 2025-09-11Read: 0
EO and ECH residue detectorsMainly used for detecting residual levels of ethylene oxide (EO) and chloroethanol (ECH) in medical devices and other products to ensure product safety.
Working Principle:EO and ECH residue detectorsUsually, headspace gas chromatography is used. Place the sample in a sealed headspace bottle and heat it to equilibrium at a certain temperature to evaporate the EO and ECH in the sample into the gas phase. Then, extract the top gas and inject it into the gas chromatograph for separation and detection. Calculate the residual levels of EO and ECH in the sample by comparing with the standard sample.
Instrument structure:
Gas chromatograph: It is the core component, including the injection system, chromatographic column, detector, etc. The injection system includes methods such as packed column head injection, packed column gasification injection, capillary split/no split injection, and six way valve gas injection; Hydrogen flame detector (FID) is commonly used as a detector, and thermal conductivity detector (TCD), electron capture detector (ECD), etc. can also be configured as needed.
Headspace sampler: capable of performing operations such as heating equilibrium, pressurization, sampling, and injection of samples.
Application field: Mainly used in the medical device industry to detect the residual levels of EO and ECH in medical devices sterilized with ethylene oxide, ensuring the safe use of medical devices; It can also be applied to other industries such as capsule production, which may use ethylene oxide for sterilization during the production process and require detection of EO and ECH residues in the products.
