Key points for cleaning and maintenance of FST tweezers
Date: 2025-12-09Read: 33
 FST tweezersAs a specialized tool in fields such as biological experiments, precision electronic assembly, and microscopic operations, it is highly favored for its high hardness, high precision, and excellent corrosion resistance. Its accuracy and service life are directly related to the standardization of daily cleaning and maintenance. The following are the key points of cleaning and maintenance operations that can be directly implemented, covering the maintenance needs throughout the entire service life.
1、 Core Cleanliness Principles
The cleaning of FST tweezers should follow the core principles of "classified cleaning, on-demand agent selection, and avoiding damage": choose the corresponding cleaning method according to the usage scenario (such as biological sample operation, chemical reagent contact, electronic component clamping), prioritize the use of mild cleaning agents, and strictly prohibit the use of hard brushes or sharp tools to scratch the tip and body of the tweezers to prevent damage to accuracy and surface coating.
2、 Step by step cleaning operation in different scenarios
1. Biological experimental scenarios (contact with tissues, cells, body fluids, etc.)
This type of scenario requires a focus on removing biological residues and ensuring sterility. The operating steps are as follows:
  Preliminary impurity removalRinse the tip and contact area of the forceps with sterile physiological saline or deionized water to remove visible tissue and cell residues, and avoid adhesion that is difficult to clean after drying;
  disinfection and cleaningSoak the forceps in 75% medical alcohol for 10-15 minutes, or repeatedly wipe the forceps body, tip, and joints with a sterile cotton swab dipped in 75% alcohol to kill microorganisms;
  Sterile processingIf aseptic operation is required in the future, the cleaned tweezers can be placed in a high-pressure steam sterilization pot (121 ℃, 103kPa) for 20-30 minutes, or sterilized by dry heat sterilization (160-180 ℃) for 2 hours. After sterilization, they can be placed in a sterile dryer and cooled for later use;
  Residual removalIf there are water stains remaining on the tweezers after sterilization, gently dry them with sterile absorbent paper to avoid repeated friction.
2. Chemical experimental scenarios (contact with reagents, solvents, stains, etc.)
This type of scenario requires targeted removal of chemical residues to prevent corrosion of tweezers. The operating steps are as follows:
  Targeted stain removalIf in contact with acidic or alkaline reagents, immediately rinse with a large amount of deionized water to neutralize residual reagents; If there are oily stains, use a small amount of anhydrous ethanol or acetone dipped in a cotton swab to wipe, do not soak the whole stick (to avoid corroding the joint adhesive);
  Overall cleaningWipe the tweezers with a soft cloth dipped in neutral detergent solution to remove surface oil stains, and then rinse with deionized water;
  Drying treatmentWipe dry with a clean soft cloth or let it air dry naturally in a well ventilated area. It is strictly prohibited to use a hair dryer with high temperature settings to blow directly at the tip of the tweezers to prevent thermal deformation.
3. Precision operation scenarios (electronic components, optical parts clamping, etc.)
In such scenarios, it is necessary to avoid residual impurities affecting precision components. The operating steps are as follows:
  Dust cleaningGently brush away the fine dust at the tip and gap of the tweezers with a soft bristled brush (such as a wool brush), or use a compressed air tank (air pressure ≤ 0.3MPa) to blow from the tip of the tweezers towards the body of the tweezers to prevent dust from entering the joint;
  Mild cleaningWipe the tweezers body and tip with a dust-free cloth dipped in isopropanol to remove fingerprints and minor stains. Isopropanol evaporates quickly and leaves no residue, without damaging electronic components or optical coatings;
  check and confirmAfter cleaning, use a magnifying glass to observe whether there is any residue on the tip of the tweezers, ensuring that there are no impurities before proceeding with subsequent operations.
3、 Key maintenance points
1. Tip protection: maintenance of precision core
Avoid using tweezers to grip hard objects (such as metal blocks or glass fragments) to prevent deformation, passivation, or cracking of the tweezers;
When not in use, put a special protective cover (such as a silicone or plastic sleeve) on the tip of the tweezers, or place them in a specialized storage box with grooves to avoid collision with other tools;
If there is slight wear on the tip of the tweezers, they cannot be polished by themselves. It is necessary to contact the manufacturer for professional repair or replacement to prevent damage to accuracy.
2. Joint maintenance: Ensuring flexibility
Regularly check the tightness of the joints. If there is looseness, gently rotate the adjustment screw (equipped on some models) at the joint to adjust it to the appropriate tightness. Do not overtighten to avoid damaging the threads;
If there is a dry feeling at the joint after cleaning, 1-2 drops of specialized precision instrument lubricating oil (such as silicone oil) can be added. After adding, repeatedly open and close the tweezers several times to ensure that the lubricating oil is evenly distributed. Excess grease should be wiped clean with a dust-free cloth to avoid dust adsorption;
It is strictly prohibited to immerse the joints in corrosive solvents to prevent the joint adhesive from failing.
3. Surface coating maintenance: corrosion resistance and aesthetic maintenance
FST tweezers are often coated with stainless steel or titanium alloy to avoid prolonged exposure to strong acids, alkalis, and oxidants (such as concentrated hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide) and prevent coating detachment;
Do not use rough tools such as steel wool or sandpaper during cleaning. If there are stubborn stains, you can first wet apply a small amount of neutral detergent with a soft cloth for a moment, and then gently wipe it off;
If scratches or peeling of the coating are found, the use in corrosive environments should be reduced to prevent rusting of the base metal.
4、 Storage and Storage Standards
  Environmental RequirementsStore in a dry, ventilated, and dust-free environment, avoiding direct sunlight and high temperature and humidity (relative humidity ≤ 60%, temperature 15-25 ℃), to prevent tweezers from rusting;
  storage methodClassify the tweezers according to their models and place them in specialized tweezers storage boxes (such as plastic or wooden boxes with compartments). Different precision tweezers should be stored separately to avoid contact between their tips; If it is a long handled pair of tweezers, it can be hung for storage to reduce the force on the tip of the tweezers;
  Long term storageIf:FST tweezersIf not used for a long time, clean and dry the tweezers, apply a thin layer of anti rust oil on the surface of the tweezers, put on a protective cover, store in a sealed bag, and regularly check for signs of rust.
