The pour point and flash point of lubricating oil are two commonly seen data when we look at the technical parameters of oil products,They play a decisive role in the selection of lubricants, so what is the difference between the pour point and flash point of lubricants?
The lowest temperature at which oil can continue to flow when cooled under standard conditions is called the pour point. When selecting lubricating oil, it is usually necessary to consider the pour point of the lubricating oil, which should be 5 to 10 degrees lower than the lowest temperature of the operating environment. Under specified conditions, when lubricating oil is heated and the oil temperature reaches a certain temperature, the mixture of lubricating oil vapor and surrounding air, once in contact with the flame, will cause a flash fire phenomenon. The lowest flash fire temperature is called the flash fire point of the lubricating oil. When selecting lubricating oil, the flash point of the lubricating oil should be considered based on the operating temperature. Generally, the flash point should be 20 to 30 degrees higher than the operating temperature to ensure safe use and reduce volatilization losses.
