Diagnosis and solution sharing of common problems with silicon carbide electric heating plates
Date: 2025-10-09Read: 1

The core of a silicon carbide electric heating plate is the silicon carbide heating element, which is covered with a high-temperature resistant insulation layer and directly heats up by electricity. The structure is simple but requires high requirements for the use environment and operating standards. In long-term use, malfunctions are often caused by issues such as overheating, corrosion, and mechanical impact. Mastering the diagnosis and solutions to common problems of silicon carbide electric heating plates is the key to ensuring their safe, efficient, and long-lasting operation.

Problem 1: No heating or slow heating
Power inspection: Confirm that the socket is powered on, the power cord is not broken, and the plug is in good contact;
Thermostat malfunction: Check if the temperature control instrument displays abnormalities, if the sensor is detached or damaged, and try replacing or calibrating it;
Heating element aging: After long-term use, the resistance of the silicon carbide rod increases, the power decreases, and the heating element needs to be replaced due to slow heating;
Loose wiring: Open the junction box to check if the power cord is securely connected to the heating plate, and tighten the loose terminals.
Problem 2: Temperature runaway or continuous heating
Temperature control system failure:
Check if the thermocouple (K-type or N-type) is inserted properly and if the wiring polarity is correct;
If the thermostat is damaged and unable to cut off the power, it should be immediately powered off and replaced;
Solid state relay (SSR) breakdown: The internal short circuit of the relay causes continuous power supply, and the SSR module needs to be replaced;
Sensor displacement: The thermocouple did not touch the heating element, resulting in low temperature measurement and overheating. Reinstall it to the temperature measurement hole.
Problem 3: Surface cracks or localized redness
Mechanical damage:
Avoid heavy objects hitting or sharp objects scratching the surface, as cracks can accelerate component oxidation and fracture;
Minor cracks can continue to be used, but the maximum operating temperature needs to be lowered;
Localized overheating:
Check if poor contact and hot spots are caused by uneven bottom of the container;
Avoid empty or dry burning, especially in high temperature ranges (>800 ℃);
Clean surface residues (such as salts and acids) to prevent corrosion from causing hotspots.
Problem 4: Uneven heating
Uneven aging of components: In multi-stage electric heating plates, the power attenuation of a certain heating element leads to temperature differences;
Uneven heat dissipation: Fast heat dissipation at the edges and high center temperature are normal phenomena, which can be improved by extending the preheating time;
Container mismatch: Using beakers or crucibles that are too small or deformed, resulting in insufficient heating area.
