Calibration technology of insulation oil gas evolution tester - the key to accurate detection
Date: 2025-12-19Read: 0

In the operation of power equipment, the performance of insulating oil is directly related to the safety and stability of key equipment such as transformers and cables. The gas evolution of insulating oil, as an important indicator to measure its ability to release or absorb gas under strong electric fields, is of great significance for evaluating the aging state and insulation performance of oil products. Therefore, accurately measuring the gas evolution of insulating oil is a fundamental and critical step in oil product testing in the power industry.

The insulation oil gas evolution tester is a specialized equipment used for conducting this test. This instrument is designed according to standards such as GB/T11142, NB/SH/T0810, ASTM D2300, etc. It accurately measures the tendency of insulating oil to precipitate or absorb gases by simulating its service environment under high voltage electric fields (such as 10KV) and specific temperature conditions. To ensure the accuracy and reliability of measurement data, scientific and standardized calibration of measuring instruments is one of the core tasks of laboratory quality management.

The calibration of instruments is a systematic project that mainly revolves around the following key parameters and technical aspects:

1. Calibration of temperature system

Temperature is an important condition that affects the rate of gas evolution reaction. This instrument usually has a temperature control range of 0 ℃ to 100 ℃, and calibration should focus on its temperature control accuracy (such as ± 0.5 ℃) and the uniformity of the temperature field in the oil bath. The use of traceable standard thermometers or temperature sensors to compare and adjust the instrument's displayed temperature with the actual temperature at multiple set temperature points (especially commonly used test temperature points) is the basis for ensuring that the reaction environment meets standard requirements.

2. Calibration of High Voltage System

The 10KV test voltage applied by the instrument and its stability (voltage accuracy ± 2%) directly affect the discharge intensity and are the core parameters for exciting the gas evolution process. Calibration requires the use of standard high-voltage dividers or high-voltage meters to accurately measure and verify the voltage values output by the instrument. At the same time, it is necessary to check the boost stability and ripple coefficient of the high-voltage system to ensure the consistency and repeatability of the electric field conditions.

3. Calibration of timing and flow control

The standard test has clear regulations on reaction time (usually a specific duration, timing range 1-120 minutes, accuracy ± 1s) and gas flow rate through the oil surface (such as 3L/h). Calibration requires verifying the accuracy of the internal timer of the instrument and using a standard flow meter to calibrate the gas flow rate of the gas supply system, ensuring that time control and atmospheric environment comply with standard procedures.

4. Overall performance verification

In addition to single parameter calibration, overall performance verification should also be conducted by measuring standard substances or certified reference samples. Using a standard oil sample with known gas evolution values and conducting a complete test on the instrument, comparing the measured results with the standard values, is an effective method to evaluate the comprehensive measurement capability of the instrument and verify whether the entire measurement system (including temperature control, high pressure, timing, testing cell, etc.) is coordinated and reliable.

Conclusion

Comprehensive and regular calibration of the insulation oil gas evolution tester is fundamental to ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and traceability of its detection data. It not only meets the mandatory requirements of GB, ASTM and other standard specifications for testing equipment, but also serves as a technical prerequisite for laboratories to issue reliable testing reports and provide solid data support for power equipment status assessment and fault diagnosis. Establishing a comprehensive calibration plan and records to ensure that every technical parameter is under control is the key to achieving accurate testing and improving service quality in oil testing laboratories.
