Use and maintenance of infusion pump flow tester
Date: 2025-05-15Read: 0
The infusion pump flow tester is mainly used to test the flow rate and infusion accuracy of infusion pumps (such as intravenous infusion pumps, infusion pumps, etc.), ensuring that the infusion pump can stably and accurately control the flow rate within the specified range. Its use and maintenance are key to ensuring the safety and functionality of medical equipment. The following is a guide for the use and maintenance of the infusion pump flow tester:
1、 Instructions for use
1. Equipment inspection
Check appearance: Before use, first check whether the appearance of the tester is intact, ensuring that there is no damage or other abnormal situation.
Battery level: If the device is powered by a battery, check the battery level to ensure that the device will not be interrupted due to low battery during the testing process.
Connection inspection: Check whether each connecting component (such as sensors, conduits, etc.) is secure.
2. Preparation work
Install sensor: According to the instructions of the infusion pump flow tester, correctly install the flow sensor onto the input interface of the tester, ensuring that the sensor is connected to the outlet of the infusion pump.
Set parameters: According to the specifications of the infusion pump that needs to be tested, set the testing parameters of the tester, such as flow range, units (such as mL/h, drops, etc.), and testing time.
Set pump parameters: According to actual needs, set the flow rate and operating mode of the infusion pump (such as constant speed mode, pulsation mode, etc.).
3. Start testing
Start the infusion pump: Start the infusion pump to operate at the preset flow rate and mode.
Real time monitoring: Observe the flow data displayed by the tester and compare it with the flow set by the infusion pump. If the tester supports data recording, the test results can be recorded for subsequent analysis.
Test completion: After the test is completed, turn off the infusion pump and flow tester, record and save the test data.
4. Result analysis
Check flow accuracy: Based on test data, compare the error between the actual flow rate of the infusion pump and the calibrated flow rate. If the error exceeds the allowable range, it indicates that the infusion pump may have a malfunction or needs to be recalibrated.
Performance evaluation: Determine the performance of the infusion pump based on the flow test results to ensure its stable operation at different flow rates.
2、 Maintenance and upkeep
1. Regular inspection
Sensor inspection: Regularly check whether the flow sensor has scale or damage, and clean or replace damaged sensors in a timely manner.
Battery replacement: If using a battery powered tester, regularly check the battery status and replace it in a timely manner to avoid affecting the normal use of the equipment.
Line inspection: Check whether the cables and connecting wires of the equipment are worn or damaged to ensure stable connection.
2. Cleaning and disinfection
Cleaning the exterior: Regularly clean the casing of the flow tester to avoid the accumulation of dust and stains. Use appropriate cleaning agents and a soft cloth to wipe the external surface to avoid damaging the equipment.
Sensor cleaning: If there is any liquid or dirt residue on the surface of the sensor, it needs to be wiped with an appropriate cleaning solution. For water-soluble substances, they can be cleaned with warm water; For adhesive substances, mild cleaning agents can be used for cleaning.
Disinfection: After each use, it is recommended to disinfect the equipment appropriately, especially the parts in contact with the infusion pump liquid, to avoid cross infection.
3. Calibration and accuracy testing
Regular calibration: To ensure the accuracy of the testing instrument, equipment calibration should be carried out regularly, especially after replacing sensors or undergoing maintenance. Calibration work is generally completed by professional technicians.
Accuracy check: An accuracy check can be conducted before each use to ensure that the measurement results of the equipment meet the standards. Testing can be conducted using a known flow rate of liquid to check if the accuracy of the equipment meets the requirements.
4. Storage and protection
Storage environment: The equipment should be stored in a dry, clean, and non corrosive gas environment, avoiding high temperature, humidity, and direct exposure to strong light.
Seismic protection: Appropriate seismic measures should be taken during transportation or storage to prevent equipment from being impacted or shaken.
Waterproof protection: Avoid the flow tester from coming into contact with moisture, especially during liquid operation, to ensure that the equipment is not affected by liquid splashes.
5. Software updates and technical support
Software maintenance: If the device comes with a software system, regularly check if the software has been updated to ensure proper functioning of the system.
Technical support: In case of equipment failure or malfunction, it is necessary to promptly contact the manufacturer or after-sales service for technical support and repair.
3、 Precautions
Usage environment: Ensure that the temperature and humidity of the infusion pump flow tester meet the technical specifications of the equipment.
Flow range: Ensure that the tested flow range is within the design range of the instrument, otherwise it may result in inaccurate test results.
Operator training: Personnel using flow testers should receive professional training, familiarize themselves with operating procedures and safety regulations.
By proper use and regular maintenance, the infusion pump flow tester can ensure the accuracy and stability of the infusion pump, improving the safety and reliability of medical equipment.
