A platinum rhodium crucible is an experimental apparatus made by alloying two precious metals, platinum (Pt) and rhodium (Rh), in a certain proportion.
Performance Characteristics
High temperature resistance: Platinum rhodium alloy has a high melting point and thermal stability, and can be used for a long time in high temperature environments without deformation or cracking. Some platinum rhodium crucibles can withstand high temperatures up to 1700 ℃.
Corrosion resistance: The chemical stability of platinum rhodium alloy makes it less susceptible to corrosion from most chemical substances, including strong acids and bases, and can withstand corrosion from some strong acids, bases, and even strong oxidants.
Good thermal conductivity: With excellent thermal conductivity, it can quickly conduct the heat from the heating source and evenly transfer it to the reactants, ensuring the uniformity of temperature distribution and improving the reproducibility of experiments and the accuracy of results.
Chemical inertness: Not easily reactive with most reagents, no metal ion leakage, can ensure sample purity, suitable for experiments that are sensitive to reagents, such as preparing high-purity reagents, catalysts, etc.
Application field
Analytical Chemistry: Used for ash content determination, sample pretreatment, etc., it can avoid metal contamination and ensure the accuracy of analysis results.
Materials Science: Plays an important role in high-temperature single crystal growth, such as sapphire and crystal preparation, as well as in experiments such as molten salt electrolysis and rare earth metal extraction.
Industrial manufacturing: commonly used in optical glass melting to avoid the generation of bubbles and impurities, and can also be used in processes such as platinum group metal purification.
Operation and Maintenance
Operation specifications: Avoid exceeding the material limit temperature, as the limit temperature of platinum rhodium crucibles varies with different proportions; Do not come into contact with reducing substances such as P, S, Si, etc. to avoid the formation of low melting point eutectic, and do not come into contact with molten alkali metals, otherwise severe corrosion may occur; It is recommended to use heating methods such as muffle furnace and hydrogen oxygen flame, and avoid contact with carbonaceous heating elements to prevent the formation of PtC.
Cleaning method: For organic residues, they can be burned at 500 ℃ for 4 hours and then soaked in dilute hydrochloric acid; If there is silicate attachment, 5% hydrofluoric acid can be used for ultrasonic treatment, but the time should not exceed 5 minutes; Metal oxides can be dissolved by melting potassium pyrosulfate (K ₂ S ₂ O ₇).
Storage requirements: It should be stored separately in a container lined with soft velvet cloth to avoid contact with hard objects and prevent scratching the surface.
