Design principles of valve plate for electric butterfly valve
Date: 2025-08-13Read: 12

Electric butterfly valves are usually composed of components such as valve body, butterfly plate, electric actuator, and sealing ring. As one of the core components, the valve plate plays a crucial role in determining the fluid control capability, sealing performance, opening and closing efficiency of the valve. The rationality of its design directly affects the working performance and service life of the valve.

The valve plate is mainly responsible for controlling the on/off of fluids, regulating flow and pressure. A reasonable valve plate design can not only improve the opening and closing efficiency, but also enhance the sealing performance of the valve and extend its service life. When designing valve plates, the following principles are usually followed:
1. Simple structure, easy to manufacture
The valve plate design should be simplified as much as possible to reduce unnecessary complex structures. A simple design not only reduces manufacturing costs, but also reduces wear and tear on the valve plate during long-term use, increasing its service life. Usually, valve plates are designed in a disc or wedge shape to ensure smooth fluid flow and reduce fluid flow resistance.
2. High strength and corrosion resistance
Butterfly valves are usually used in different fluid media, and the valve plate needs to have high strength and corrosion resistance to adapt to different working conditions and environments. The selection of valve plate materials is crucial, commonly used materials include stainless steel, cast steel, and alloy materials, which can ensure the strength and durability of the valve plate in environments such as high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive media.
3. Adapt to fluid flow state and reduce resistance
The design of the valve plate should be optimized based on the flow state of the fluid. The change in fluid flow state will directly affect the flow characteristics and opening and closing performance of the valve. In order to reduce fluid flow resistance and improve flow control accuracy, valve plates are usually designed with streamlined shapes. Through streamlined design, the valve plate can effectively reduce fluid vortex phenomena, lower valve energy consumption, and reduce fluid vibration and noise.
4. High sealing design to reduce leakage
The sealing design of the valve plate directly affects the sealing performance of the valve. Good sealing can prevent fluid leakage and ensure the safe operation of pipeline systems. The sealing surface of the valve plate is usually made of special sealing materials, such as soft seals, hard seals, etc., to enhance the sealing effect of the valve plate.
There are various design types of valve plates for electric butterfly valves, including disc type, cone type, and sector type. Each design type has different advantages and applicability under different working conditions.
1. Disc-shaped valve plate
Disc type valve plate is a common design form, which has a simple structure, is easy to manufacture and process, and has good fluid control performance. The disc-shaped valve plate has a large opening and closing angle, making it suitable for most fluid control applications. The disc-shaped valve plate can effectively reduce flow resistance and ensure smooth fluid flow inside the valve.
2. Cone shaped valve plate
The design inspiration for the conical valve plate comes from the streamline shape of water flow in nature. Cone shaped valve plates can better adapt to different fluid media and reduce turbulence effects in the flow. Conical valve plates have strong sealing performance and are commonly used for fluid control in high-pressure and high-temperature environments. Compared with the disc type, the conical valve plate is suitable for applications that require higher precision in flow regulation.
3. Fan shaped valve plate
The design of fan-shaped valve plates is usually used for large-diameter valves. Its shape is similar to a fan shape, which can provide a larger opening and is suitable for quick opening and closing situations. Fan shaped valve plates have good flow characteristics and can effectively reduce fluid turbulence at high flow rates. At the same time, their sealing surfaces are relatively flat and have good sealing effects.
A reasonable valve plate design can not only improve the opening and closing efficiency of the valve, but also reduce flow resistance, ensure smooth fluid flow, and enhance the sealing performance of the electric butterfly valve, thereby preventing leakage. The design of valve plates requires comprehensive consideration of factors such as fluid flow state, material strength, sealing performance, and usage environment to ensure excellent performance under different operating conditions.
