The purpose of regular maintenance for polarizing microscopes

polarizing microscopeIt is a microscope used to study so-called transparent and opaque anisotropic materials. Any substance with birefringence can be clearly distinguished under a polarizing microscope. Of course, these substances can also be observed using staining methods, but some are impossible and must be observed using a polarizing microscope. The method of changing ordinary light to polarized light for mirror inspection to distinguish whether a substance is single refractive (isotropic) or birefringent (anisotropic). Birefringence is a fundamental characteristic of crystals. Therefore, polarizing microscopes are widely used in fields such as minerals and chemistry, as well as in biology and botany.
The basic principle of polarizing microscope:
The principle of polarizing microscope is quite complex and will not be further introduced here, polarizing microscopeMust have the following accessories: polarizer, analyzer, compensator or phase plate, stress free objective lens, rotating stage.
Regular maintenance of polarizing microscope:
If the indoor environment is damp, optical lenses are prone to mold and fog. Once the lens becomes moldy, it is difficult to remove. The lenses inside the polarizing microscope are more harmful to moisture due to the inconvenience of wiping. Mechanical parts are prone to rusting when exposed to moisture. In order to prevent moisture, when storing polarizing microscopes, in addition to choosing a dry room, the storage location should also be away from walls, floors, and sources of moisture.
(1) Polarized microscopes should be placed in 1-2 bags of silica gel as a desiccant. And often bake the silicone. After its color turns pink, it should be baked in a timely manner before continuing to use.
(2) Dust falling onto the surface of dust-proof optical components not only affects the passage of light, but alsopolarizing microscopeAfter the optical system is magnified, it will generate large stains that affect observation. Dust and sand particles falling into the mechanical parts can also increase wear and tear, causing movement obstruction and posing significant hazards. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly maintain the cleanliness of polarizing microscopes.
(3) Corrosion prevention: Polarized microscopes should not be placed together with corrosive chemical reagents. Such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, strong bases, etc.
(4) Thermal protection, the main purpose of which is to prevent the opening and detachment of lenses caused by thermal expansion and contraction.
