Selection Guide for Dilute Solution Viscometer
Date: 2025-11-18Read: 0
Dilute solution viscosity meterEvaluate the rheological properties of a solution by measuring its resistance (viscosity) during the flow process. The core principles include:
Pressure change detection method: Taking the DSV (Dilute Solution Viscosity) dilute solution viscometer as an example, it adopts a dual capillary series structure, and the injection valve is located in the middle of the two capillaries. The pressure difference sensor monitors the pressure drop at both ends of each capillary in real time. When the sample is injected into the second capillary, the relative viscosity is calculated by the pressure change (the relative viscosity is equal to the ratio of the pressure drop of the two capillaries multiplied by the instrument constant K). This method has high sensitivity and only requires detecting a sufficiently diluted solution to directly obtain viscosity data without extrapolation calculation.
Time flow rate detection method: The traditional Ukrainian viscometer calculates viscosity by measuring the time it takes for a solution to flow through a capillary under the action of gravity. This method requires strict temperature control and filtering of impurities, but is easy to operate and accurate in results, suitable for measuring fluids ranging from low viscosity (10 ⁻⁴ Pa · s) to high viscosity (10 ¹¹ Pa · s).
choiceDilute solution viscosity meterThe following factors need to be considered comprehensively:
Measurement range: Select the instrument type based on the viscosity range of the target solution. Low viscosity dilute solutions (such as polymer solvents) are preferred to use DSV viscometers or Ubbelohde viscometers; High viscosity fluids (such as polymer melts) require the use of a rotary viscometer.
Accuracy requirements: Laboratory research requires high-precision instruments (such as DSV viscometers, with an accuracy of ± 0.1% relative standard deviation), and industrial production can choose models that prioritize stability.
Automation level: For high-throughput detection scenarios, we recommend a fully automatic DSV viscosity analyzer that supports automatic sample injection and real-time data analysis; The basic experiment can choose a manually operated Ukrainian viscometer to reduce costs.
Temperature control: Strict temperature control requirements (such as ± 0.1 ℃) require the selection of instruments equipped with high-precision digital temperature control systems to ensure the reliability of experimental data.
Data processing capability: Prioritize instruments that support data collection, storage, and analysis software to facilitate the generation of experimental reports and trend charts.
