What are the maintenance techniques for desktop high-speed centrifuges?
Date: 2025-11-21Read: 0
Desktop high-speed centrifugeIt is a compact laboratory equipment that uses centrifugal force to separate different components in a sample. It is widely used in biomedical, chemical, food science and other fields, suitable for separating small particles such as cells, proteins, nucleic acids, etc. Desktop high-speed centrifuges have become indispensable separation equipment in laboratories due to their small size, high speed, and easy operation. Its working principle is based on the action of centrifugal force. When the centrifuge rotates, the particles in the sample move outward due to centrifugal force, and the centrifugal force they receive is proportional to the mass of the particles, the radius of rotation, and the square of the rotational speed. Due to the different densities and sizes of particles, they also experience different centrifugal forces, thus achieving separation.
Desktop high-speed centrifugeMaintenance and upkeep methods:
1、 Daily cleaning and disinfection
Clean after each use
Remove the rotor and use a neutral cleaning agent (such as soapy water) combined with a soft cloth to wipe the inner cavity, rotor, and centrifuge tube sleeve, with a focus on cleaning the sample residue.
Clean and dry metal parts thoroughly to prevent oxidation and corrosion.
If separating strong acid/alkali substances, immediately neutralize and clean with 10% sodium bicarbonate solution; After contact with the pathogen sample, fumigate and disinfect with 0.5% peracetic acid for 30 minutes.
Special case handling
If the glass tube breaks during the centrifugation process, the debris inside the chamber and casing needs to be removed. Vaseline can be applied to the upper part of the chamber, and the rotor can be run for a few minutes to allow the debris to adhere to Vaseline before removal.
After using the refrigeration machine, the lid should be opened, the condensed water should be wiped off, and it should be naturally dried.
2、 Component inspection and replacement
Rotor inspection
Before each use, confirm that the rotor is securely installed without any looseness or cracks.
Regularly inspect the surface of the rotor for scratches or corrosion pits of ≥ 0.5mm, and use a thickness gauge to detect the decrease in wall thickness of the aluminum alloy rotor.
Replace immediately upon discovering corrosion or cracks to avoid accidents during high-speed operation.
Sealing ring and door lock inspection
Check the elasticity of the door cover sealing ring every quarter. If the elongation rate is less than 30% or cracks, replace it immediately and apply silicone grease.
Confirm the closed state of the door lock device to prevent accidental opening during centrifugation.
Electrical component inspection
Before starting, check the power cord for any potential damage or leakage, and regularly measure the grounding resistance value with a multimeter (should be ≤ 4 Ω).
Check for abnormal noise or vibration during motor operation, and replace worn carbon brushes in a timely manner (recommended 3000 hour cycle).
3、 Lubrication and maintenance
Lubrication of moving parts
Add specialized lubricating grease (such as Beckman 306812 model) to moving parts such as shafts and bearings, and manually rotate to ensure even lubrication.
The refrigeration machine needs to clean the dust accumulation on the condenser fins every month, check the lubricating oil level of the compressor, and maintain the refrigerant pressure in the standard range of 0.4-0.6MPa.
Rotor maintenance
Regularly use specialized varnish (such as 70104) to maintain the rotor, basket, and casing to prevent corrosion.
When not in use for a long time, apply grease to the connection between the rotor and the rotating shaft to prevent adhesion or bending of the transmission shaft.
4、 Safety operation standards
Sample balancing
Accurately weigh the sample before centrifugation, ensuring that the mass difference at the symmetrical position is ≤ 0.1g, to avoid abnormal vibration caused by equipment imbalance.
The swivel head must be gently lowered or lifted vertically to avoid colliding with the pivot shaft and the swivel head itself.
Emergency situation handling
When there is noise with an amplitude greater than 5mm or greater than 85dB during operation, immediately stop and investigate the possibility of rotor imbalance or bearing damage.
If the lid cannot be opened, it can be manually opened.
5、 Environmental control
Placement environment
The centrifuge should be placed on a sturdy, stable, and horizontal tabletop, with a certain amount of space around the chassis to maintain good ventilation.
The workspace should be neat, clean, dry, and avoid direct sunlight or high temperature environments.
Long term suspension management
If not used for a long time, the centrifuge cover should be opened for a period of time to dry the inner cavity before reuse.
During the shutdown period, put on a plastic cover and store in a dry and harmless indoor environment.
6、 Record and Management
Maintenance Record
Establish electronic maintenance records, recording key parameters such as speed deviation, rotor wear status, and lubricant replenishment for each maintenance.
Adopting a QR code tag management system to achieve intelligent reminder of accessory replacement cycles.
periodic calibration
Verify the deviation (error ≤ ± 2%) between the actual speed and the set value through a photoelectric tachometer, and synchronously calibrate the temperature control system accuracy for refrigeration models.
Quarterly testing of control panel button sensitivity and updating of aging power cord components.
