The correct usage method of handheld flaw detector
Date: 2025-04-25Read: 4
Handheld flaw detectors play an important role in many fields such as industrial production and construction engineering. They can quickly and accurately detect defects inside or on the surface of materials, ensuring the safety of products and structures. It is crucial to master the correct usage method of handheld flaw detectors in order to fully leverage their advantages.
Firstly, sufficient preparation work should be done before use.Check the appearance of the flaw detector for any damage or looseness. Confirm that the battery is fully charged, or check if the power connection is normal to ensure that the device can function properly. At the same time, select the appropriate probe according to the testing requirements and install it correctly on the flaw detector. Then, based on the material, shape, and detection requirements of the object being tested, set the parameters of the flaw detector reasonably, such as frequency, gain, detection mode, etc.
During the operation, it is necessary to master the correct grip method and flaw detection skills.Usually, the flaw detector should be held firmly, and the part where the probe is held should be comfortable and easy to operate to avoid affecting the detection results due to hand shaking. Slowly move the probe vertically or at a specified angle to the surface of the object being tested, keeping the probe tightly attached to the surface of the object, avoiding air gaps or impurities, to ensure effective propagation and reception of ultrasonic waves.
When the ultrasonic waves emitted by the probe encounter internal defects in an object, they will generate reflected signals, which will be displayed on the screen of the flaw detector.Operators need to carefully observe the waveform and signal changes on the display screen, and determine the type, location, and size of defects based on the characteristics of the signal. During the inspection process, it is important to move the probe slowly and evenly to ensure comprehensive coverage and no omissions, and not to miss any potentially defective areas.
After the testing is completed, the testing data should be analyzed and recorded.Compare the test results with relevant standards and specifications to determine whether the object meets the requirements. If defects are found, detailed information such as the location, size, and nature of the defects should be recorded and reported to superiors in a timely manner.
In addition, in order to extend the service life of the flaw detector, it is necessary to clean and maintain it in a timely manner after use.Turn off the power, remove the probe, wipe the surface of the flaw detector with a clean cloth, and store it in a dry and ventilated place.

In short, the correct use of handheld flaw detectors requires operators to carefully learn relevant knowledge and operating skills, strictly follow the operating procedures, in order to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the detection results.
