How to maintain the hot melt adhesive pump when it is not used for a long time?
Date: 2025-10-21Read: 24
The maintenance core of not using the hot melt adhesive pump for a long time is to thoroughly clean the residual adhesive, prevent component rust and adhesion, and avoid blocking the pipeline or damaging the pump body due to adhesive solidification during restart. The specific maintenance steps are carried out according to the "shutdown cleaning component maintenance environmental storage" process:
1、 Before shutdown: Thoroughly clean residual hot melt adhesive (key prerequisite step)
Heating and melting residual adhesive material
Start the heating system of the hot melt adhesive pump, raise the temperature above the melting point of the adhesive material (usually 80-200 ℃ according to the technical parameters of the adhesive material used), and maintain it for 10-20 minutes to completely melt the residual adhesive material in the pump body and pipeline.
Discharge molten rubber material
Open the rubber discharge valve of the pump body or start the low-speed operation mode of the pump to discharge all melted rubber material into a dedicated container. During the process, gently tap the pipeline to ensure that residual rubber material at corners and interfaces is fully discharged.
Rinse with cleaning solution (for difficult to clean rubber materials)
If the adhesive material has high viscosity or is prone to carbonization, after most of the adhesive material is discharged, pour in the hot melt adhesive special cleaning solution (or select compatible cleaning solutions such as ethanol and white oil according to the type of adhesive material), start the pump and run for 5-10 minutes, rinse the pipeline and pump chamber, and finally discharge the cleaning solution and dry it.
2、 Core component maintenance: prevent rust and adhesion
Pump body and pipeline treatment
After the pump body cools down to room temperature, dip a soft cloth in anti rust oil (such as 30 # mechanical oil), evenly wipe the pump body shell, interface threads, and exposed metal parts to avoid air oxidation causing rust.
For the inner wall of the pipeline, a small amount of rust proof oil can be injected through the oil injection port. Start the pump and run it idle for 1-2 minutes (without heating) to evenly cover the inner wall of the pipeline with rust proof oil. Then turn off the pump and seal the oil injection port.
Sealing components and bearing maintenance
Check whether the sealing ring and gasket of the pump body are worn. If there is aging or deformation, replace them directly with new parts (to avoid sealing failure after long-term storage); A intact seal should be coated with silicone grease to prevent hardening and adhesion.
Special lubricating grease (such as lithium based grease) should be added to the bearing parts to ensure that the bearings remain lubricated during storage and avoid dryness and rust.
Electrical component protection
Disconnect the power supply of the hot melt adhesive pump, unplug the power cord plug, and clean the dust on the control panel and wiring terminals with a dry cloth to avoid dust accumulation and short circuits; If the environment is humid, desiccants (such as silicone bags) can be placed inside the electrical box.
3、 Storage environment and placement: reduce external environmental impact
Choose appropriate storage space
Store in a dry, ventilated, and room temperature (5-30 ℃) environment, avoiding direct sunlight, high temperature and humidity (relative humidity ≤ 60%), or areas with corrosive gases (such as acidic and alkaline gases), to prevent corrosion of pump body metal parts and moisture absorption of electrical components.
Proper placement and fixation
Place the hot melt adhesive pump horizontally on a stable bracket or ground to avoid tilting and causing deformation of internal components due to stress; If the pump body has rollers, the rollers need to be locked to prevent movement and collision.
The pipeline interface needs to be sealed with a dedicated plug (or wrapped with waterproof tape) to prevent dust and impurities from entering the pipeline and contaminating the pump chamber.
Regular inspection (long-term storage exceeding 3 months)
Open the storage area every 3 months to check for rust on the appearance of the pump body and hardened seals. If the desiccant is found to be damp, replace it promptly; Simultaneously rotate the active shaft of the pump (manually) to ensure that the bearings are not stuck. If there is resistance, lubricating grease should be added.
4、 Pre restart inspection (to avoid damaging the device directly during startup)
Before restarting after long-term storage, three checks need to be completed:
Remove all plugs and desiccants, clean the dust on the surface of the pump body, and check if the rust proof oil has deteriorated (such as blackening or clumping). If it has deteriorated, it needs to be cleaned again and coated with new rust proof oil.
Manually rotate the pump shaft to confirm that there is no jamming or abnormal noise, and that the bearings rotate smoothly; Check whether the sealing ring and pipeline interface are intact, without looseness or damage.
After connecting the power supply, start the heating system first (without starting the pump), wait for the temperature to rise to the melting point of the rubber material, and then idle the pump for 1-2 minutes to observe whether there is any leakage or abnormal noise. After confirming that it is normal, inject new rubber material for use.
