Operation steps and maintenance points of semi-automatic polarimeter
Date: 2025-11-24Read: 32
Semi-automatic polarimeterIt is a precision instrument used to measure the optical rotation of substances. By measuring the rotation angle of the sample in the direction of plane polarized light vibration, it analyzes parameters such as concentration, purity, and specific rotation of the substance.
Operation steps:
Power on preheating: Connect the power supply, turn on the light source switch, and preheat for 10-15 minutes until the sodium lamp emits stable light.
Zero point calibration: Without placing a test tube or with a test tube filled with distilled water, observe whether the field of view brightness is consistent at zero degrees. If there is inconsistency, correct the zero position error by adjusting the dial cover or subtracting the deviation value.
Sample preparation: Select a test tube of appropriate length, fill it with the test solution, install a rubber band and tighten the nut (to avoid stress affecting the reading), and dry the residual solution at both ends of the test tube.
Measurement reading: Place the test tube into the sample chamber, rotate the analyzer until the field of view brightness is consistent, and read the rotation value from the dial. Positive values are right-handed substances, negative values are left-handed substances.
Data recording: Repeat the measurement 2-3 times and take the average. Record the temperature and measurement conditions (such as the wavelength of the sodium lamp).
  Semi-automatic polarimeterMaintenance points:
Daily cleaning: Regularly wipe the lenses with a soft cloth to avoid direct contact with hands; Clean and dry the test tube promptly after use and store it properly.
Light source maintenance: When the sodium lamp accumulates dust or is damaged, open the lampshade and wipe it clean or replace it; Continuous use should not exceed 4 hours, and can be turned off for 10-15 minutes to cool down.
Environmental requirements: The instrument should be placed in a well ventilated, dry, and temperature appropriate place to avoid moisture and mold; When not in use for a long time, put on a plastic cover and press it tightly in a fixed position when packing.
Fault handling: If the sodium light does not light up or the friction resistance of the mechanical part increases, check the power supply, fuse or add clock oil; Serious malfunctions should be repaired by contacting the manufacturer.
