The main components and functions of Brooke Raman spectrometer
Date: 2025-08-17Read: 0
Brooke Raman spectrometer is an instrument used for material analysis and chemical composition detection, widely applied in fields such as materials science, life sciences, pharmaceutical research, environmental monitoring, etc. Spectral technology based on Raman scattering phenomenon. Raman scattering refers to the phenomenon where when light is irradiated onto a substance, most of the light is elastically scattered (Rayleigh scattering), while a small portion of the light undergoes inelastic scattering due to changes in molecular vibration or rotational energy levels. This phenomenon is called Raman scattering. Raman spectroscopy utilizes this principle to analyze the vibrational modes of molecules in a substance, thereby obtaining information on its chemical composition.

  Brooke Raman spectrometerWorking principle:
1. Laser irradiation of samples: The spectrometer emits laser light of a specific wavelength through a laser source, which is irradiated onto the sample to be analyzed.
2. Raman scattering: When the laser beam interacts with the sample molecules, some photons will undergo inelastic collisions with the molecules in the sample, resulting in Raman scattering. According to the different molecular vibration frequencies, the frequency of scattered light shifts, forming Raman shift.
3. Collection and analysis of scattered light: The spectrometer collects scattered light through lenses or optical fibers, and separates the scattered light by wavelength through a dispersion system (such as a grating or prism) in the spectrometer. The separated optical signal is captured by a detector and converted into a digital signal, which is then processed by a computer to output a Raman spectrum.
Main components:
1. Laser source: Laser is the core light source, and commonly used laser wavelengths include 785nm, 532nm, 1064nm, etc. Different laser wavelengths are suitable for different types of samples. The stability and power of the laser source directly affect the quality of the spectrum.
2. Optical system: including lenses, mirrors, and optical fibers, used to focus laser beams and collect Raman scattering light. The design of optical systems should ensure the focusing accuracy of light beams and the collection efficiency of scattered light.
3. Spectrometer: The spectrometer separates scattered light of different wavelengths through dispersive elements (such as gratings) and maps them onto the detector. The resolution of the spectrometer determines the analytical ability of Raman shift.
4. Detector: Common detectors include CCD (Charge Coupled Device) and CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) detectors. The detector converts the optical signal into an electrical signal and transmits it to the computer for processing.
5. Computers and software: Computers and related software are used to process the data collected by detectors, generate Raman spectra, and perform peak analysis, qualitative and quantitative analysis, etc.
Advantages of Brooke Raman Spectrometer:
1. Non destructive analysis: Typically, no pre-treatment is required for the sample, making it a non-destructive testing method. It is suitable for precious samples, complex samples, and difficult to handle samples.
2. High resolution: With high resolution, it can accurately measure changes in molecular vibration frequency, helping researchers reveal subtle differences in molecules.
3. Wide applicability: Suitable for various substances, including liquids, solids, gases, etc. It can analyze various materials such as metals, semiconductors, plastics, drugs, food, etc., and has strong universality.
4. Rapid analysis: Raman spectroscopy technology has the advantages of fast and real-time analysis, which can obtain accurate results in a short period of time and is suitable for high-throughput detection and online monitoring.
5. Non contact: Analysis can be carried out without contact with the sample, avoiding problems of sample contamination and damage.
