On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between China and Japan, the second China Japan Environmental Roundtable Dialogue on "Ecological Environment System Reform: Opportunities and Challenges" was held on June 9, 2018 at the main lecture hall of the China Japan Friendship and Environmental Protection Center in Beijing. The conference is a roundtable dialogue guided by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Environment of Japan, hosted by the China Japan Friendship Environmental Protection Center and the Japan Cooperation Agency, and co organized by the Earth Environment Strategy Research Institute. Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu and Minister of Environment of Japan, Hiroshi Sasagawa, attended the dialogue and delivered a keynote speech.

Vice Minister Huang Runqiu of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China delivered a speech as a special guest at the conference. Huang Runqiu stated that since the signing of the Sino Japanese Peace and Friendship Treaty 40 years ago, China Japan environmental cooperation has achieved fruitful results of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, and has a broader prospect for cooperation. It is suggested that China and Japan should join hands to further carry out cooperation in various aspects, promote the joint construction of the green "the Belt and Road", achieve "green water and green mountains", and jointly make positive contributions to the improvement of regional environmental quality; Strengthen cooperation in fulfilling environmental conventions, enhance communication and exchange in areas such as implementing the Paris Agreement and continuously cracking down on environmental violations by enterprises engaged in the processing and utilization of imported solid waste; Further sharing Japan's refined management experience in air and water pollution prevention and control, solid waste management, rural environmental governance, and nuclear safety supervision, as well as effective measures in green production transformation and cultivating green lifestyles, to provide more professional solutions for the people; Jointly plan the medium and long-term ideas for China Japan environmental cooperation, and further enhance the role of the China Japan Friendship Environmental Protection Center as a window and platform in deepening practical cooperation. Later, he wished the conference a complete success.

Japanese Minister of Environment, Hiroshi Sasagawa, delivered a special invited report titled "Environmental Protection in Japan in the New Era". He shared the process of the reform of the Japanese Ministry of Environment system, introduced the basic concepts and policies of environmental protection in the "Environmental Basic Law" formulated by Japan in 1993, and then shared the core content of the Fifth Environmental Basic Plan. Afterwards, he wished the conference a complete success.
