Height setting and environmental protection requirements for industrial exhaust pipes
Date: 2025-11-10Read: 2

As a key facility for industrial waste gas emissions, the height setting of industrial exhaust pipes directly affects the diffusion effect of atmospheric pollutants and the surrounding air quality. According to the current ecological environment management requirements in China, when setting the height of exhaust pipes, enterprises must strictly comply with the relevant regulations issued by the ecological environment management department and the corresponding industry's air pollutant emission standards.

The height of the exhaust pipe refers to the vertical distance from its ground plane to the outlet of the exhaust pipe. The height of the exhaust pipe should comply with the clear regulations of the emission standards being implemented. If the relevant standards allow for the conversion of emission concentration or emission rate when the exhaust pipe height does not meet the standard, it can be executed according to the standard provisions; If the standard does not specify convertible situations, the height of the exhaust pipe must be fully within the standard limit.

For polluting units that comply with the Comprehensive Emission Standards for Air Pollutants (GB 16297-1996), if the height of the exhaust pipe does not meet the requirement of "being more than 5 meters higher than the surrounding buildings within a radius of 200 meters", the maximum allowable emission concentration of pollutants should be 50% of the corresponding emission standard limit, and the emission concentration limit should not be adjusted due to changes in the height of the exhaust pipe.

For industrial furnaces that comply with the "Emission Standards for Air Pollutants from Industrial Kilns" (GB 9078-1996), the allowable height of their chimneys (or exhaust pipes) is 15 meters. If there are buildings within a 200 meter radius, the chimney height should be at least 3 meters higher than the highest building. On this basis, the specific height should also comply with the requirements proposed in the approved environmental impact assessment document. If the height of the chimney fails to meet any of the above regulations, the maximum allowable emission concentration of pollutants must also be executed at 50% of the corresponding standard limit.

Enterprises should strengthen their main responsibility, set up and manage exhaust pipes in accordance with laws and regulations, ensure that pollutant emissions meet national environmental protection requirements, and promote continuous improvement of environmental air quality.
