Biosafety IVC: Core Equipment for Aseptic Feeding of Rodents
Date: 2025-12-10Read: 0
In the fields of life sciences and biomedicine research, sterile feeding of rodent experimental animals is a key prerequisite for ensuring the reliability of SPF (pathogen free) and even sterile level experimental data.Biosafety IVCAs a new generation of experimental animal breeding equipment, the triple protection system of precise airflow regulation, microbial isolation, and real-time environmental monitoring has been established to create a stable and controllable sterile living space for rodents, becoming the core equipment for experimental animal breeding.
From the perspective of airflow circulation design, the core advantage of IVC system lies in achieving independent ventilation and purification at the cage level. The entire equipment is equipped with efficient air supply and exhaust units. The external air needs to pass through primary filters, medium filters, and HEPA high-efficiency filters in sequence. The filtration efficiency for particles larger than 0.3 μ m can reach 99.99%, ensuring that the air sent into the cage reaches a hundred level cleanliness and isolates pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and mycoplasma in the air. At the same time, IVC adopts an airflow mode of "up and down", where clean air is evenly sent from the top of the cage. Waste gas carrying animal excrement odors and potential pollutants is centrally discharged through the bottom grille, and the exhaust is also filtered to maintain fresh air inside the cage and avoid cross contamination between different cage positions, ensuring an independent and sterile environment for single cage animals.
At the level of physical isolation,Biosafety IVCThe sealed structure and independent cage design create multiple protective barriers. Each cage box is equipped with a highly sealed polycarbonate or stainless steel cage cover, which is combined with a silicone sealing ring to isolate the cage environment from the outside world, preventing external pollution caused by personnel operation or ambient air. At the same time, the connection port between the cage and the bracket adopts a dedicated sealed joint to ensure that there is no risk of air leakage in the ventilation pipeline, maintain a stable micro positive pressure environment inside the cage, and prevent the infiltration of unpurified air. In addition, the IVC system can achieve independent disassembly and sterilization of cages. Experimenters can perform high-temperature and high-pressure sterilization on vacant cages to eliminate residual microorganisms from the hardware level, providing sterile feeding carriers for rodents.
In terms of environmental monitoring and operation management, the intelligent configuration of IVC further solidifies the reliability of aseptic feeding. The equipment is equipped with a differential pressure sensor, temperature and humidity monitor, and air exchange counter to monitor the airflow pressure, environmental temperature and humidity, and ventilation frequency of each cage in real time. Once there is a filter blockage, abnormal airflow, or temperature and humidity exceeding the standard, the system will automatically trigger an audible and visual alarm to ensure the continuous and stable operation of the ventilation and purification system. Some IVCs are also equipped with cage monitoring and data traceability functions, which can record the feeding environment parameters of each cage animal and achieve full process control of aseptic feeding process.
Biosafety IVCThe system has created a comprehensive sterile breeding space for rodents through precise airflow purification, rigorous physical isolation, and intelligent environmental monitoring, ensuring the microbiological level of experimental animals and laying a solid equipment foundation for the precision and repeatability of life science research.
