JEOL cryo electron microscopy successfully observed hydrogen atoms, charges, and chemical bonds in proteins

Scientists from the Japan Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, Tohoku University, and JST (Science and Technology Promotion Agency) successfully observed the negative charges of almost all hydrogen atoms and amino acid side chains in proteins using a JEOL CryoARM 300 cryoelectron microscope with a resolution of 1.19 angstroms; The author explains that the research findings are expected to reveal the detailed chemical properties and functional mechanisms of proteins, which will contribute to the development of life sciences, medicine, and new drugs.
