LC-MS/MS Determination of Aniline and Benzidine Compounds in Soil and Sediments
Date: 2022-04-02Read: 0

Aniline compounds refer to a type of compound formed when the hydrogen atom in the aniline molecule is replaced by other functional groups. The emission sources of aniline and its derivatives in the environment mainly come from industrial wastewater such as printing and dyeing dyes, inks, pharmaceuticals, rubber, coatings, pesticides, and plastics. Aniline compounds have high toxicity, some of which have obvious carcinogenic effects, and are priority pollutants for control in China.

Benzidine is an important aromatic diamine compound, mainly used in the production of dyes for clothing, paper, and leather products. As a non natural chemical pollutant, benzidine has no natural source and may enter the environment through leakage, volatilization, wastewater, or waste gas during its production and use. The main way for benzidine to enter the soil is through the application of factory sludge or waste containing aniline and other diamine dyes. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has confirmed that it is a carcinogen.
With the development of modern industry and agriculture, the emissions and residues of aniline and benzidine compounds in the environment are increasing, and the harm to the environment and people's health is becoming increasingly serious. Therefore, it is crucial to establish the determination of aniline and benzidine compounds in environmental media.
At present, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China has issued the standard HJ 1210-2021 "Determination of 13 Aniline and 2 Benzidine Compounds in Soil and Sediments by Liquid Chromatography Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry", providing technical support and regulatory basis for the determination of aniline and benzidine compounds in soil and sediment in environmental media. This article focuses on the standard, and PerkinElmer company has successfully established an analysis scheme for 15 aniline and benzidine compounds in soil and sediment using QSight LC-MS/MS liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry system. Based on retention time and ion ratio, rapid and accurate qualitative analysis is carried out, and the detection limit is * the detection limit in the standard *, making it easy to meet daily detection and analysis requirements.
