The National Control Water Station Digital Intelligence Upgrade and Transformation Project has been launched, and the development direction of smart monitoring is seen from the perspective of national projects
Date: 2025-12-05Read: 2

Recently, the National Control Water Station of China Environmental Monitoring Center announced the winning bid for equipment updates and digital upgrades, and the bidding documents were made public. It was mentioned that unmanned aerial vehicles could be used to achieve rapid investigation of water quality abnormalities.

This indicates that water station monitoring is moving towards the direction of "coordinated air ground and intelligent closed-loop". Focusing on water stations as the center, covering upstream and downstream, and achieving low-cost monitoring improvement is a key focus for the future. In this process, fast, in-situ, and multi parameter synchronization are also key forces driving the digital upgrading of water stations.

There are two requirements for the inspection unit of the intelligent water station in the requirements document:

One is to equip inspection drones with two modes of hangar and pilot operation. Automatic inspection must be able to identify abnormal situations and generate alarm information;

Secondly, it has the function of quickly identifying water quality abnormalities, and can detect the water quality upstream and downstream of the water intake through portable and rapid measuring instruments and equipment.

To create an "air ground linkage" mode, the intelligent water station needs to be equipped with a drone hangar and support automatic patrol triggering. After discovering hidden dangers during drone inspections, with the collaborative ability of the digital platform and APP, the platform can remotely issue operation and maintenance work orders. After the operation and maintenance personnel arrive at the site, they can confirm the problem through portable devices, thus achieving a closed-loop process for problem disposal.

In terms of inspection frequency, it is required to conduct automatic inspections at least twice a day, covering at least 1km upstream to 500m downstream of the water collection point of the water station. This distance covers the range to prevent data interference from the water station (within 1000m upstream and 200m downstream of the water collection point of the national control water station or river manual sampling point, or within 500m of the lake and reservoir station), and is a high-frequency inspection.

The technical requirements established in this pilot project are expected to provide important references for subsequent national and provincial control projects. The future water quality monitoring system will mainly evolve in three directions:

  1. Function expansion: Add hyperspectral large-area screening function to the unmanned aerial vehicles installed in the station building, making them have functions such as interference identification, pollution preliminary judgment, and sample collection.

  2. Scope extension: The drone hyperspectral is extended to the spectral water quality monitoring station, and the monitoring range is extended to upstream and downstream risk unit outlets, water body intersections, and environmentally sensitive points, achieving more comprehensive risk coverage.

  3. Mode upgrade: The intelligent water station will evolve into a core hub, achieving a leap from fixed point monitoring to precise watershed traceability and management through collaborative unmanned aerial vehicle hyperspectral, unmanned ship mounted hyperspectral, and portable rapid monitoring of hyperspectral analyzer's dynamic data collection.

Dual integration development direction of AOPU Tiancheng spectral method and national standard station

The spectral station acts as a 'scout':Conduct wide area and high-frequency patrols, and issue warnings immediately upon discovering abnormal water quality trends (such as a sudden increase in COD spectral values).

  1. The national standard water station acts as a "precision strike force": after receiving warnings, it initiates or encrypts monitoring to accurately measure abnormal points, confirm the types and concentrations of pollutants, and provide legal basis for decision-making.
