The regular maintenance of portable gas detectors is very important
Date: 2025-09-18Read: 3
Portable gas detectorIt is a device used to detect the concentration of gas (including combustible gas and toxic gas) in the air. Mainly using principles such as electrochemical sensors and infrared sensors to detect gas in the air. When there is gas in the environment where the detector is located, the sensor will convert the gas concentration into an electrical signal, which will be processed by the circuit and displayed in the form of a digital or audible and visual alarm to remind the user to take timely safety measures.
Portable gas detectorRegular maintenance (key steps):
1. Zero Calibration:
Purpose: To adjust the reading of the instrument to "zero" in clean air, eliminating errors caused by environmental changes or sensor drift.
Frequency: It is recommended to do it before each use or before daily use. This is the most basic operation to ensure measurement accuracy.
Method: In clean and pollution-free outdoor fresh air or known clean air, follow the instructions and start the "zero calibration" program.
2. Bump Test:
Purpose: To quickly verify whether the sensors, alarm functions (sound, light, vibration), and circuits of the instrument are working properly. It doesn't adjust the reading, it's just a 'functional test'.
Frequency: It is strongly recommended to do so before each use, especially before entering areas where hazardous gases may be present.
Method: Use a calibration gas of known concentration (usually 30% -50% of the instrument range), and inject the gas into the sensor window through a dedicated calibration adapter. Observe whether the instrument responds within the specified time and triggers the correct alarm (sound and light alarms should be clear and distinguishable).
3. Calibration:
Purpose: To use standard gases of precise concentration to adjust the instrument readings to match the true values. This is high-level maintenance to ensure measurement accuracy.
Frequency: Usually conducted every 1-6 months, depending on the usage environment, manufacturer recommendations, and relevant safety regulations. If the impact test fails, the instrument is subjected to strong impact, or there is suspicion of inaccurate readings, it should also be carried out immediately.
Method: Use certified standard gas (with clear concentration, such as 50% LEL methane), calibrate the adapter, and perform multi-point (usually 1-2 points) calibration according to the precise process in the instruction manual. It is recommended to have trained personnel or professional institutions operate it.
