What should be done if the handheld color 3D scanner accidentally gets wet?
Date: 2025-06-20Read: 2

1、 Immediately shut down the device

When the handheld color 3D scanner accidentally gets wet, the first step is to immediately turn off the device. Turning off the power can prevent moisture from further penetrating into electronic components, avoiding short circuits or damaging circuit boards. Even if the device does not appear to be significantly damaged, it should be turned off immediately, as the conductivity of water may cause irreversible damage in a short period of time.
2、 Quickly wipe off surface moisture
After turning off the device, quickly use a soft dust-free cloth or clean towel to gently wipe the surface moisture of the device. Avoid using rough fabrics or tissues as they may scratch the casing or lens of the device. Focus on wiping key parts such as lenses, sensors, and connection ports to ensure that there is no residual moisture on the surface. If there are a large number of water droplets on the surface of the device, gently shake the device to make the droplets fall off, but avoid vigorous shaking to prevent water from entering the interior of the device.
3、 Move to a dry and ventilated area
Place the wiped scanner in a dry and well ventilated environment so that moisture can quickly evaporate. Avoid placing equipment in damp, enclosed spaces such as cabinets or drawers, as this can slow down the evaporation of moisture and increase the risk of equipment damage. If possible, the device can be placed in a place with direct sunlight, but avoid prolonged exposure to prevent overheating.

4、 Use desiccants or hair dryers to assist in drying
To accelerate the drying process, desiccants such as silica gel desiccants can be placed around the equipment. Desiccants can absorb moisture from the air and help reduce the humidity around the equipment. If conditions permit, you can also use the cold air setting of the hair dryer to gently dry the equipment. Note that the wind speed of the hair dryer should not be too high and should be kept at an appropriate distance to avoid damage to the equipment caused by hot air. When blowing dry, the operation should be carried out from different angles of the equipment to ensure that both internal and external moisture can be blown dry.
5、 Check the equipment status
After the equipment is dried, its condition needs to be carefully checked. Firstly, check if there are any signs of deformation or damage to the casing of the device. Secondly, check if the lens and sensor are clear and if there are any water stains or dirt residues. If water stains are found on the lens, lens cleaning solution and lens paper can be used for cleaning. Finally, check if the connection port and battery compartment of the device are dry to ensure that there is no residual moisture.
6、 Perform functional testing
After confirming the appearance and internal dryness of the device, functional testing can be conducted. Open the device and check if it can start and run normally. Perform a simple scanning test to check if the scanned data is accurate and if the image is clear. If problems are found with certain functions of the device, such as decreased scanning accuracy or abnormal data, it should be immediately stopped from use and professional maintenance personnel should be contacted for inspection and repair.
7、 Avoid disassembling equipment on your own
When dealing with water contaminated equipment, do not disassemble the equipment by yourself. The internal structure of the scanner is complex, and disassembling it on its own may result in equipment damage or warranty failure. If water enters the device, professional maintenance personnel should be contacted as soon as possible for treatment. Professional maintenance personnel possess specialized tools and experience, enabling them to more effectively assess the extent of equipment damage and take appropriate repair measures.
8、 Summary and preventive measures
It is crucial to take timely measures to handle handheld color 3D scanners that have been exposed to water. By shutting down the equipment, wiping off moisture, placing it in a dry and ventilated area, using desiccants or hair dryers to assist in drying, checking the equipment status, and conducting functional tests, a series of steps can be taken to minimize the damage of moisture to the equipment. Meanwhile, in order to prevent the equipment from getting wet again, it is recommended to take preventive measures during use, such as using waterproof or rainproof covers in humid environments, regularly checking the sealing performance of the equipment, and avoiding using the equipment near water sources. Through scientific and reasonable handling and preventive measures, the service life of equipment can be effectively extended, ensuring the stability and reliability of its performance.
