How does a 3D modeling scanner obtain the 3D coordinate information of an object's surface?
Date: 2025-11-05Read: 1
3D modeling scannerIt is a scientific instrument used to detect and analyze the shape and appearance data of objects or environments in the real world. The collected data can be used to create digital models of actual objects in the virtual world.

3D modeling scannerBased on physical principles such as optical measurement, acoustics, magnetism, and electricity, the three-dimensional coordinate information of an object's surface is obtained through non-contact or contact methods.

Contact type: By directly contacting the surface of an object with a probe and using sensors to measure the surface shape of the object point by point, a three-dimensional model of the object is constructed. Its advantages are high measurement accuracy and good stability, suitable for fields that require high accuracy, such as industrial manufacturing, cultural relic restoration, etc.

Non contact: Measurement is carried out in a non-contact manner, such as structured light scanning, laser radar scanning, etc. The principle is to project a beam of light onto the surface of an object, and use the image information generated by the reflection, transmission, or interference of light on the surface of the object, combined with the position, angle, and other information of the camera, to calculate the three-dimensional coordinates of the object. Non contact 3D scanners have fast measurement speed and minimal environmental impact, making them suitable for fields that do not require high accuracy, such as animation production and human body scanning.

Application Scenario:

Manufacturing industry: used for product design, quality inspection, reverse engineering, etc., which can accelerate product iteration speed and improve production efficiency.

Healthcare: Able to quickly complete precise 3D replicas of various free-form and geometric shapes, used for customized prosthetics, dental modeling, etc., to achieve personalized patient care.

Heritage conservation: By combining art, science, and innovative technology, precise 3D replicas of precious cultural relics from around the world can be created for easy protection and research.

Electronic games: Create high-quality 3D models for actors, props, and scenery, which can create realistic virtual worlds and enhance the immersion of the game.
