In the field of chemical industry and materials, the stabilization technology of lotion has always been a research hotspot. Traditional lotion often rely on synthetic surfactants or animal derived emulsifiers, but they have problems such as insufficient long-term stability, possible harm to biology and the environment. In recent years, Pickering lotion with natural macromolecular particles as the stabilizer has attracted much attention due to its safety and environmental protection characteristics, while cellulose nanofibers (CNFs), as a natural stabilizer with excellent performance, its efficient preparation and application have become the focus of the industry.

The new micro jet homogenization technology developed by the Beijing Technology and Business University team provides an innovative solution for the efficient preparation of CNFs. This technology uses a self-made short-range jet intersecting micro groove homogenization valve, which only needs to be processed 3 times under a pressure of 110MPa to convert micro scale cellulose into nano scale fibers. Compared to traditional methods such as high-pressure homogenization (6 treatments at 150MPa) and hydraulic jet impingement (60 cycles at 200MPa), the new technology significantly reduces energy input and processing time while ensuring the high-quality characteristics of CNFs.

The CNFs prepared by this technology exhibitThe diameter of the fibers is about 50nm, and they are intertwined to form a network structure, significantly enhancing their interaction with water. When the concentration of CNFs aqueous dispersion exceeds 1.2wt%, it will form a stable three-dimensional network structure, which provides a good foundation for the stability of lotion.
In the application of Pickering lotion, the performance of CNFs is also excellent. Research shows that the concentration of CNFs has a significant impact on the characteristics of O/W Pickering lotion: as the concentration increases from 0.4wt% to 2.0wt%, the average particle size d [3,2] of the oil drop surface area of the lotion decreases from 4.36 μ m to 2.27 μ m, and the average particle size d [4,3] of the volume decreases from 5.17 μ m to 4.07 μ m, making the oil drop smaller and more uniform; The apparent viscosity of lotion increased with the increase of concentration, and all showed shear thinning behavior, which was conducive to processing and application.
The stability test highlights its advantages: the 2.0wt% CNFs stabilized lotion has no stratification within the 40 day storage period, the movement and aggregation of oil droplets are restricted by the spatial network structure, and the fat floating index (CI%) approaches 0. This is due to the irreversible adsorption of CNFs at the oil-water interface and the construction of a three-dimensional network in the continuous phase, forming a dual stability mechanism.
The CNFs based Pickering lotion prepared by this technology has great potential in food, medicine, cosmetics and other fields. Its natural biodegradability meets the requirements of green chemistry, and its excellent stability is suitable for the protection and transmission of bioactive ingredients. In the future, with further optimization of microjet homogenization technology, the industrial production and application of CNFs are expected to accelerate, injecting new impetus into the development of sustainable chemical materials.
