Detailed analysis of the working principle of TOC analyzer
Date: 2025-12-14Read: 0
TOC analyzer is an instrument used to measure the organic carbon content in water, wastewater, soil, food, and chemicals. The TOC value reflects the concentration of organic matter in water or other media, and is widely used in environmental monitoring, industrial production process control, drinking water detection, and chemical analysis.

  toc analyzerThe basic principle is:
1. Sample preparation: Add the water sample or other medium to be analyzed to the analyzer, which may require appropriate dilution to ensure its concentration is within the measurement range of the instrument.
2. Oxidation process: Organic compounds in the sample are completely oxidized to carbon dioxide under high temperature or catalytic action. The commonly used oxidation methods include catalytic combustion and ultraviolet oxidation.
3. CO ₂ detection: The carbon dioxide generated during the oxidation process is measured by a detector, and common detection methods include non dispersive infrared (NDIR) method, electrochemical sensor method, etc.
4. Data calculation: Calculate the content of organic carbon in the sample based on the concentration of CO ₂ and the sample volume, and display the results.
Application areas of TOC analyzer:
1. Environmental monitoring
It is one of the important tools for water quality detection in environmental monitoring. By measuring the organic carbon content in water, the degree of pollution in the water can be evaluated, and whether the water quality meets the standards can be determined. Can be used to monitor the organic content in surface water, groundwater, drinking water, and sewage.
2. Industrial production
In industrial production, it is used to monitor the removal efficiency of organic matter during the production process, especially in industries such as chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and food. For example, in the pharmaceutical industry, high purity water quality is required to ensure that the organic content in the water does not exceed the standard.
3. Water treatment and wastewater management
Wastewater treatment plants often use analyzers to monitor the organic carbon content of wastewater in real-time, in order to optimize the treatment process. The change in TOC value can reflect the concentration of organic pollutants in wastewater, which can help adjust wastewater treatment processes and improve treatment efficiency.
4. Food and beverage industry
The food and beverage industry uses analyzers to detect organic pollutants in water sources and production processes to ensure product quality and safety. For example, excessive organic carbon content in drinking water may affect the taste and safety of the water.
5. Pharmaceutical industry
The pharmaceutical industry has high requirements for water quality, which can be used to monitor the organic content in production water and cleaning water to ensure compliance with standards and avoid contaminating drugs.
