In the previous issue, we introducedNiton handheld XRF spectrometer for analyzing concentrate and controlling grade applicationIn this issue, we will further explore how this portable technology worksConduct uranium and thorium exploration in a precise and efficient manner.
Application of Handheld XRF Spectrometer in Mining
1
method
Mexican Geological Services Company(SGM)Geologists conducted this survey in the Nopal region of northeastern Mexico. They systematically analyzed 1334 samples from 31 sites, using 40 linear cross-sections and a spacing of 100 meters. The uranium content of each sample was measured by performing radiation measurements, laboratory analysis, and handheld XRF analysis on the prepared samples. The radiation measurement used a scintillation meter. These instruments are typically used for U-Th exploration, and some models can provide semi quantitative data. Uranium based on these three methodsGeochemical mapAs shown in Figure 2.

result
Figure 2 shows a significant overlap between the uranium geochemical anomalies determined by laboratory analysis and HHXRF analysis. HHXRF analysis shows that the anomalies of Th and U are the same; Laboratory data cannot be compared. Although scintillation meters are highly effective tools for quickly identifying radioactive samples, their data may not be as reliable as laboratory or HHXRF analysis because the U and Th anomalies they display do not overlap with those analyzed in the laboratory or HHXRF. If the scintillation meter is combined with HHXRF on site, it can be more effective.
