The high and low temperature tensile testing machine (also known as the temperature controlled tensile testing machine) is mainly used to test the tensile properties of materials under different temperature conditions, such as strength, elongation, etc. It is widely used for testing materials such as rubber, plastic, and metal, especially in the aerospace, automotive, and electronics industries. The testing method usually includes the following steps:
1. Sample preparation
Size specifications: Cut the sample according to the test standards to ensure that the sample size meets the requirements, commonly in the shape of a standard dog bone.
Cleaning: Ensure that the sample surface is free of dust, oil stains, and other impurities to avoid interference with the test results.
2. Set temperature conditions
High temperature conditions: Set the test temperature as needed, usually by heating the sample through a high-temperature chamber or hot air circulation device.
Low temperature conditions: Low temperature testing usually uses methods such as low-temperature tanks, coolants, or liquid nitrogen to bring the sample to the desired low temperature.
Temperature balance: Before starting the test, ensure that the sample has reached a stable set temperature in a temperature controlled environment.
3. Install samples
Fix the sample in the fixture of the tensile testing machine, ensuring a firm grip and avoiding the sample from sliding or falling off during the stretching process.
Adjust the alignment between the fixture and the sample to ensure that the stretching direction is perpendicular to the length of the sample.
4. Set stretching parameters
Stretching speed: Set an appropriate stretching speed based on experimental requirements and material properties. The common stretching speed range is 1mm/min to 100mm/min.
Test temperature: Set the temperature control system of the equipment to conduct the test at the required high or low temperature.
Testing time: Set the stretching time according to the experimental requirements, usually by automatically stopping the program to complete the stretching test.
5. Start testing
Start the testing machine, and the system will stretch according to the set speed.
During the testing process, real-time recording of the force displacement curve, tensile strength, elongation, fracture strength, elastic modulus, and other data of the sample.
6. Data analysis
By analyzing the test results through software or manual means, draw the force displacement curve and analyze the tensile strength, yield point, elongation at break and other properties of the material.
Compare test data under different temperature conditions and analyze the performance changes of materials at high and low temperatures.
7. Cleaning and maintenance
After the test is completed, clean the equipment and sample fixtures.
Ensure that the temperature control system of the equipment is functioning properly and check if maintenance is required for the cooling or heating devices.
8. Safety precautions
The high and low temperature tensile testing machine involves a high temperature environment during the testing process, and protective equipment should be worn to avoid direct contact with high or low temperature equipment.
During low-temperature testing, ensure that the storage and use of low-temperature liquids (such as liquid nitrogen) comply with safety regulations to avoid leakage or splashing.
Through these steps, the mechanical performance changes of materials at extreme temperatures can be evaluated, and the applicability and reliability of the materials can be understood.
