Installation steps for polishing machine bearings
Date: 2025-11-24Read: 31
Polishing machine bearingsIt is the core component that ensures the high-speed and stable operation of equipment. Standardized installation directly affects the service life of bearings, polishing accuracy, and overall performance of equipment. The following are the general installation steps for various types of polishing machines suitable for industrial grade, small desktop, etc. The operation must strictly follow safety regulations and equipment instructions:
1、 Preparation before installation
Preparation of tools and consumables: Prepare suitable wrenches, hex wrenches, bearing pullers (if needed), screwdrivers, lubricating grease (recommended lithium based grease or equipment specific grease), cleaning cloths, anhydrous ethanol/kerosene (for cleaning); Verify that the bearing model matches the shaft diameter and bearing seat size of the polishing machine to ensure that the bearing is free from damage, rust, ball jamming, and other issues.
Cleaning the components to be installed: Dip a cleaning cloth in anhydrous ethanol/kerosene to thoroughly clean the surfaces of the polishing machine spindle, bearing seat inner holes, end caps, and other components of oil stains, iron filings, and dust; Ensure that the surface of the spindle is free of scratches and rust, and the inner hole of the bearing seat is smooth and free of impurities. After cleaning, air dry it for later use.
Check the fitting accuracy: Use a caliper to measure the spindle diameter and bearing inner ring tolerance, as well as the bearing seat inner hole and bearing outer ring tolerance, to ensure compliance with the transition fitting requirements (to avoid running shaking due to looseness, installation difficulties due to tightness, and bearing heating); If the spindle is worn or deformed, it needs to be repaired or replaced first.
Safety protection: Operators should wear gloves to avoid hand oil contamination of bearings or spindles; Ensure that the polishing machine is powered off and unplugged to prevent safety accidents caused by accidental startup.
2、 Core installation steps
Bearing pretreatment: If the bearing is a separated type, remove the inner ring separately; Apply a thin layer of lubricating grease evenly on the contact surfaces of the inner and outer rings of the bearing and the ball cage (the amount applied is about 1/3~1/2 of the internal space of the bearing to avoid excessive heat generation); If the bearing is sealed, there is no need to apply additional grease (pre filled with lubricating grease at the factory).
Install the inner ring of the bearing:
Small bearings: Align the inner ring with the spindle installation position by hand and gently push it in; If the fit is tight, a suitable copper sleeve can be placed on the inner ring end face of the bearing (avoid directly tapping the bearing). Use a hammer to evenly tap the copper sleeve and slowly press the inner ring into the designated position of the spindle (ensuring that the inner ring is tightly attached to the shaft shoulder and not loose).
Large bearings: Hot fitting method can be used (placing the bearing in hot oil or oven at 80-100 ℃ for 5-10 minutes, using thermal expansion and contraction to reduce installation resistance). After heating, quickly remove and dry it, align it with the main shaft, and quickly fit it in. After cooling, the inner ring will tightly fit with the main shaft (avoid material damage caused by high bearing temperature during hot fitting).
Install the outer ring and bearing seat of the bearing:
Align the outer ring (or integral bearing) of the lubricated bearing with the inner hole of the bearing seat, ensuring the correct installation direction (sealing surface facing the inside of the equipment to prevent dust from entering); Slowly push in by hand. If the fit is tight, place a wooden board on the end face of the outer ring of the bearing and strike it evenly with a hammer until the outer ring is completely embedded in the bearing seat and the end face is flush with the bearing seat.
If the bearing seat has positioning pins or fixing screws, it is necessary to ensure that the positioning pins are installed in place to avoid displacement of the outer ring of the bearing.
Install end caps and fixed components:
Apply a small amount of sealant (or install a sealing ring) on the inside of the end cap, align the end cap with the bearing seat mounting hole, and use a screwdriver or wrench to evenly tighten the fixing screws (with consistent tightening force to avoid tilting and pressing the bearing).
Install the bearing locking nut (if necessary), tighten it to the required torque according to the equipment requirements, and ensure that the axial clearance of the bearing meets the standard (clearance too small is prone to heating, and clearance too large is prone to shaking); Some equipment requires the installation of stop washers to prevent nuts from loosening.
3、 Post installation inspection and debugging
Manual rotation test: After installation, rotate the polishing machine spindle by hand to feel if the rotation is smooth, without any jamming or abnormal noise, and if the spindle does not shake significantly; If there is excessive rotational resistance, abnormal noise or shaking, it is necessary to disassemble and check the installation direction, fitting accuracy or lubrication condition of the bearing.
Gap and Position Inspection: Use a feeler gauge to check the axial clearance of the bearing to ensure compliance with the equipment manual requirements; Observe the fit between the bearing end face, end cover, and shaft shoulder, and ensure there is no looseness or deviation.
No load test run: Connect the power supply, start the polishing machine and run it without load for 5-10 minutes. Observe the operating status of the equipment: there is no obvious heating in the bearing part (temperature does not exceed 60 ℃), no abnormal noise, and the spindle rotates smoothly; If there is rapid heating or abnormal noise, immediately stop the machine and troubleshoot installation issues.
4、 Installation precautions
It is prohibited to directly strike precision parts such as bearing balls and sealing rings with a hammer to avoid damaging the internal structure of the bearing and affecting its service life.
During the installation process, it is necessary to keep the components clean and prohibit impurities such as oil stains and iron filings from entering the interior of the bearing, otherwise it will aggravate wear.
The installation direction of bearings must strictly follow the equipment manual, and the sealing surface of sealed bearings must not be installed backwards to prevent grease leakage or dust from entering.
Fixed components such as screws and nuts should be tightened to the specified torque to avoid looseness during operation or bearing deformation caused by over tightening.
If there are problems such as bearings not being able to be installed or fitting too tightly during the installation process, forced installation is not allowed. It is necessary to recheck the size matching or use professional tools to assist in installation.
