Vertical torch tubeIt is a key component in inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), with a unique design and significant functionality. With the design of vertical placement, the spray hole is located in the vertical direction of the torch tube, which is compact and relatively simple. This design allows the sample to flow vertically along the center of the torch tube after atomization, directly entering the flame for atomization. Torch tubes are typically made of metal and high-temperature resistant materials, such as quartz or special alloys, to ensure stability and durability in high-temperature environments. Part of the high-density torch tubes adopt an integrated design, fused together, easy to install, and can automatically locate the argon plasma torch tube and connect it to gas, achieving fast start-up and good repeatability.
Vertical torch tubeThe main characteristics are:
1. Structural Design and Plasma Stability
Vertical layout: The axis of the torch tube is perpendicular to the horizontal plane, and the plasma flame burns from top to bottom, using gravity to naturally stabilize the flame shape and reduce flame drift caused by airflow disturbance in the horizontal torch tube.
Three layer coaxial structure:
Outer tube: Cooling gas (such as argon) is introduced to form a low-temperature boundary layer, which protects the torch tube from high-temperature erosion and constrains the plasma to prevent its outward diffusion.
Intermediate tube: Introduce auxiliary gas (such as argon) to assist in maintaining the plasma morphology and enhancing its stability.
Inner tube: Transport carrier gas (such as argon) carrying sample solution or gas into the plasma to achieve sample introduction.
High temperature resistant materials: Torch tubes are usually made of quartz or ceramics, which can withstand the high temperature generated by plasma (about 6000-10000K), ensuring long-term use without deformation.
2. Sample introduction and atomization efficiency
Efficient atomization: When the vertical torch tube is combined with atomizers (such as core atomizers and cross flow atomizers), liquid samples can be atomized into micrometer sized aerosols, improving the efficiency of sample entry into the plasma.
Reduce memory effect: Vertical design allows the sample to quickly pass through the torch tube under gravity, reducing residue and lowering the risk of cross contamination, especially suitable for multi-element continuous analysis.
Wide dynamic range: It can adapt to the detection of samples with different concentrations, and can stably analyze from trace amounts (ppb level) to high concentrations (% level).
3. Plasma characteristics and detection performance
High electron density: The plasma generated by the vertical torch tube has a high electron density (about 10 ¹⁵ -10 ¹⁶ cm ⁻ ³), which is conducive to the ionization of sample atoms and improves detection sensitivity (up to ppb or even ppt level).
Low temperature plasma zone: A relatively low temperature zone (about 2000-3000K) is formed at the lower part of the torch tube, reducing the generation of refractory oxides, minimizing matrix effect interference, and improving analysis accuracy.
Stable matrix tolerance: Strong adaptability to high salt and high organic matter samples, which can reduce signal suppression or enhancement caused by matrix effects.
4. Ease of operation and maintenance
Easy to install and adjust: The vertical torch tube has a compact structure, clear installation direction, and is easy to align with other components of the instrument (such as sampling cones and cutting cones).
Simple cleaning and maintenance: The torch tube is designed to be detachable, and regular cleaning can remove sediment (such as salt and carbon deposits), extending its service life.
Wide compatibility: Suitable for various sample types (liquid, gas, solid solution), and can be matched with different atomizers and injection systems to meet diverse analysis needs.
5. Application Fields and Advantages
Trace element analysis: Excellent performance in environmental monitoring (such as heavy metal detection), food safety (such as pesticide residue), geological exploration (such as rare earth element analysis), and other fields.
Isotope ratio determination: High stability plasma supports precise isotope ratio measurement, used for research in nuclear industry, archaeology, and other fields.
Simultaneous detection of multiple elements: ICP-MS or ICP-OES combined with a vertical torch tube can achieve synchronous analysis of dozens of elements, improving detection efficiency.
