Usage details and operating specifications of battery punching machine
Date: 2025-07-04Read: 1
The battery punching machine is a core equipment used in the production process of lithium-ion batteries, nickel hydrogen batteries, and other batteries to prepare electrode sheets (positive and negative electrodes). Its function is to process metal foil materials (such as copper foil and aluminum foil) into electrode sheet shapes that conform to battery design through precision stamping. The precision of equipment usage, operational standards, and maintenance directly affect the quality of polarizer, production efficiency, and equipment lifespan. The following are the usage details and key precautions of the battery punching machine, covering the operation process, parameter control, maintenance points, and other contents.
1、 Preparation before turning on the device
1. Environmental inspection
-Ensure that there are no debris around the equipment, the workbench is clean, and avoid contaminating the electrode with metal debris or dust.
-Check temperature and humidity: The optimal environment is a temperature of 20-25 ℃ and a humidity of 40% -60% to avoid mold corrosion or material deformation caused by high temperature and humidity.
-Grounding protection: Confirm that the equipment is well grounded to prevent static electricity accumulation from causing safety hazards.
2. Material preparation
-Metal foil materials need to be cut to the appropriate size in advance (slightly larger than the mold working area), with smooth edges and no burrs.
-Check the surface of the foil material: there should be no scratches, pits, or oxidation spots, and if necessary, wipe it with alcohol to remove oil stains.
-Prepare tray: used to store stamped pole pieces, indicating polarity (positive/negative) and isolated to prevent mixing.
3. Equipment inspection
-Power and gas sources: Confirm that the voltage is stable (usually 380V three-phase electricity) and the air pressure meets the requirements (usually 0.4-0.6MPa).
-Mold installation: Check if the upper and lower molds match, if the mold gap is uniform (usually 5% -10% of the foil thickness), and if the fasteners are not loose.
-Lubrication system: Apply specialized lubricating oil to the mold guide column, guide sleeve, and transmission components to reduce friction and wear.
2、 Parameter Setting and Debugging
1. Stamping parameter setting
-Pressure regulation: Adjust the stamping pressure according to the thickness of the foil material. If the pressure is too high, it will shorten the mold life, and if it is too low, it will easily produce burrs. For example, the pressure for a 10 μ m thick copper foil is usually 0.3-0.5 tons.
-Speed control: The stamping frequency needs to match the feeding speed. If it is too high, it may cause stacking. It is recommended to set the initial speed to 10-20 times/minute and gradually increase the speed.
-Travel adjustment: Ensure that there is a 0.5-1mm margin left after the upper mold is pressed down to the bottom to avoid crushing the mold or damaging the foil material.
2. Mold gap calibration
-Measure the gap between the upper and lower molds using a feeler gauge to ensure uniformity around the edges. A gap that is too large can cause burrs, while a gap that is too small can easily lead to mold breakage.
-Trial punching verification: Use waste materials for trial punching to check whether the edge of the pole piece is smooth, without tearing or warping. If it is not qualified, the mold needs to be readjusted.
3. Safety protection settings
-Activate light curtain protection: Ensure that the device is equipped with an infrared grating to prevent hands from accidentally entering the danger zone during operation.
-Emergency stop button: Check that the emergency stop button is functioning properly and located for easy access.
3、 Operating procedures and standards
1. Loading and feeding
-Lay the metal foil flat on the feeding platform, ensuring that the material is not wrinkled or tilted.
-When starting automatic feeding, monitor whether the suction cup or gripper is firmly attached to the foil material to avoid deviation or slipping.
2. Stamping process monitoring
-During continuous stamping, observe the forming condition of the pole piece:
-Qualified polarizer: with neat edges, no burrs, and precise hole positions (such as ear holes).
-Defective polarizer: Promptly mark and remove, common defects include burrs, cracks, dimensional deviations, etc.
-Inspect the polarizer every 30 minutes and use a micrometer to measure thickness consistency, with an error controlled within ± 0.02mm.
3. Material receiving and isolation
-The stamped pole pieces should be handled gently to avoid bending or bumping.
-The positive and negative electrodes should be stored separately, and the tray should be clearly labeled to prevent mixing (which may cause battery short circuits or even explosions).
-Each batch of polarizer must be accompanied by a process card, recording the mold number, stamping parameters, and inspection results.
4、 Common faults and solutions
1. Polar burrs
-Reason: Uneven clearance between molds, worn cutting edges, or excessive stamping speed.
-Solution: Recalibrate the gap, grind the cutting edge, and reduce the stamping frequency.
2. Dimensional deviation of polarizer
-Reason: Mold wear, loose positioning pin, or inaccurate feeding step distance.
-Solution: Replace mold accessories, tighten positioning device, calibrate feeding machine.
3. Stacking
-Reason: The feeding speed does not match the stamping frequency, or the material is electrostatically adsorbed.
-Solution: Reduce the feeding speed and install an ion fan to eliminate static electricity.
5、 Equipment maintenance and upkeep
1. Daily maintenance
-Cleaning the mold: After each shift, remove the metal debris inside the mold and blow off the residue with compressed air.
-Check lubrication: Add lubricating oil to the transmission gears, guide columns, and other parts daily.
-Turn off the power and gas supply: Avoid prolonged standby that may cause component aging.
2. Regular maintenance
-Weekly: Check for air leaks in pneumatic components such as cylinders and solenoid valves, and tighten screws.
-Monthly: Disassemble the mold for deep cleaning and grind the cutting edge with a diamond grinding wheel.
-Quarterly: Calibrate pressure sensors and displacement sensors to ensure accurate parameters.
3. Long term discontinuation treatment
-Apply anti rust oil: Spray anti rust agent on the surface of the mold to prevent rusting in humid environments.
-Cover with dust cover: protect equipment from dust pollution.
