Advantages and application value of screw driven lifting furnace technology
Date: 2025-11-17Read: 0

In the fields of modern materials science, high-temperature physics experiments, semiconductor manufacturing, and advanced ceramic sintering, requirements have been put forward for temperature uniformity, atmosphere control accuracy, and sample loading and unloading convenience in the heat treatment process. Although traditional fixed muffle furnaces can meet basic heating needs, they appear inadequate in scenarios where samples are frequently taken and placed, multi-stage processes are connected, or thermal shock damage needs to be avoided. For this reason, the screw driven lifting furnace has emerged - it achieves vertical lifting of the furnace or furnace body through a precision mechanical structure, combined with an intelligent temperature control system, providing efficient, safe, and accurate high-temperature treatment solutions for scientific research and industrial users. The screw driven lifting furnace is not only a heating device, but also an experimental equipment that integrates mechanical automation, thermal control, and ergonomics. It is widely used in the research and development and small-scale production of universities, research institutes, and high-tech enterprises.

1、 Structure composition and working principle

The core of the screw driven lifting furnace lies in its unique integrated design of "lifting mechanism+high-temperature furnace body". Its main components include:

1. Furnace system

The furnace is usually made of high-purity alumina fiber or polycrystalline mullite fiber, which has excellent insulation performance and low heat capacity characteristics, and can quickly rise and fall in temperature. The heating element can be selected from silicon carbide rod (up to 1400 ℃), molybdenum disilicide (MoSi ₂, up to 1800 ℃), or molybdenum/tungsten wire (for vacuum or inert atmosphere, up to 2000 ℃ or above) depending on the operating temperature. The temperature uniformity inside the furnace can reach within ± 3 ℃, meeting the requirements of high-precision heat treatment.

2. Lift transmission mechanism

This is the key difference between this device and a regular muffle furnace. The lifting system consists of high-precision ball screws, servo motors (or stepper motors), guide rails, and support platforms. The motor drives the screw to rotate, converting the rotational motion into linear lifting motion of the furnace bottom or the entire furnace body. Compared to hydraulic or pneumatic methods, screw drive has advantages such as high positioning accuracy (up to ± 0.1mm), smooth operation, no oil pollution, and easy maintenance.

3. Control system

Integrated PLC or embedded controller, supporting program temperature control (multi-stage heating, insulation, cooling), lifting linkage, safety interlock and other functions. Some models are equipped with touch screen human-machine interfaces, which can preset process curves and monitor parameters such as temperature, position, and current in real time.

4. Safety and auxiliary systems

Including over temperature protection, power-off memory, furnace door limit switch, cooling fan, and optional atmosphere control system (such as introducing nitrogen, argon, or creating a reducing atmosphere), ensuring operational safety and process flexibility.

The workflow is usually as follows:

1. Place the sample on the furnace bottom tray or crucible rack;

2. Start the program and the furnace body will automatically descend to a low position for easy sample loading;

3. After closing the protective cover, the furnace body rises steadily to the working position and seals the furnace mouth;

4. Heat up to the target temperature according to the set program and keep it warm;

After the process is completed, the furnace body automatically descends to achieve rapid cooling or safe sampling.

2、 Technical advantages and application value:

1. High precision positioning and repeatability

Ball screw transmission ensures that the height of each lifting position is consistent, especially suitable for automated production lines that require multiple thermal cycles or docking with robotic arms.

2. Reduce thermal shock damage

The sample can be loaded at a low temperature and the furnace body can be raised to a high temperature zone to avoid rapid cooling and cracking of the sample caused by high temperature start-up (such as for sensitive materials such as single crystal growth and ceramic sintering).

3. Improve operational safety and efficiency

Operators do not need to open the lid to take and store samples in high temperature environments, reducing the risk of burns; Simultaneously reducing non heating time and improving equipment utilization.

4. Good atmosphere compatibility

During the lifting process, the furnace mouth can be quickly sealed, effectively maintaining the purity of the atmosphere inside the furnace. It is suitable for processing materials that are sensitive to oxygen content, such as nitrides, carbides, and metal powders.

5. Modularity and Scalability

The furnace size, lifting stroke (usually 200-600mm), maximum load (50-500kg), and additional functions (such as rotating sample stage, optical observation window, etc.) can be customized according to the needs.

3、 Selection and maintenance suggestions:

1. Operating temperature: Select the appropriate heating element based on the sintering temperature of the material;

2. Furnace size and effective heating zone: Ensure that the sample is in a uniform temperature zone;

3. Lifting speed and load capacity: Heavy samples require larger torque motors and reinforced screw rods;

4. Control accuracy and interface: Does it support RS485, Modbus, or LabVIEW communication for easy integration into automation systems;

5. Brand and after-sales service: Priority should be given to manufacturers with experience in thermal equipment manufacturing (such as Carbolite Gero from Germany, CM Furnace from the United States, Kejing from Hefei, China, Chenhua from Shanghai, etc.).

The key points of daily maintenance include:

1. Regularly lubricate the screw and guide rail to prevent jamming;

2. Check the resistance value of the heating element and replace the aging element in a timely manner;

3. Clean up the deposition of volatile substances in the furnace to avoid contaminating the sample;

4. Avoid frequent emergency stops and starts to extend the lifespan of the transmission system.
