Want to extendGilson pipetteThe service life should start from four dimensions: standardized operation, daily maintenance, regular calibration, and proper storage. The following are 8 specific core points for easy and quick mastery:
Standardize operations to avoid mechanical damage
When suctioning and draining, the action should be gentle, and the pipette button should not be quickly pressed or released to prevent damage to the internal piston and spring due to excessive instantaneous pressure.
It is strictly prohibited to invert or lay the pipette flat (especially when sucking liquid) to avoid liquid reflux and corrosion of the internal sealing ring and movement.
After absorbing high viscosity, volatile, or corrosive liquids, it is necessary to promptly replace the suction head and clean the front end of the pipette to prevent reagents from infiltrating the internal components.
Regular cleaning to prevent residual reagents
External cleaning: After each experiment, use a dust-free cloth dipped in 70% ethanol to wipe the pipette housing to remove surface stains and reagent residue.
Internal cleaning: If liquid reflux occurs, the suction rod, sealing ring, and other components of the pipette should be disassembled according to the instructions, rinsed with distilled water, dried, and then coated with special lubricant (only applicable to Gilson specified models) to ensure sealing performance.
Correctly replace the suction head to reduce wear and tear
When installing the suction head, it is necessary to vertically press down and gently rotate it to ensure that the suction head is tightly attached to the pipette cone, avoiding violent insertion and removal that may cause deformation of the cone.
Prioritize using Gilson original suction tips, non original suction tips may cause cone wear or leakage due to size mismatch.
Reasonably store and avoid environmental impact
Hang the pipette on a dedicated bracket during the experimental gap to avoid collision or contamination of the cone head caused by placing it flat on the table.
When stored for a long time, the pipette should be adjusted to the maximum range (releasing spring pressure) and placed in a dry, cool, and non corrosive gas environment, while being covered with a dust cover.
Regular calibration to ensure accuracy while protecting equipment
It is recommended to conduct professional calibration every 3-6 months (you can contact Gilson's official after-sales service or third-party metrology institutions). During the calibration process, the wear of internal components can be checked synchronously, and aging parts can be replaced in a timely manner.
If the pipette experiences range deviation, leakage, or other issues, do not disassemble the precision components on your own and have them repaired by professional personnel.
Avoid using beyond the range
It is strictly prohibited to adjust the pipette beyond its maximum range, otherwise it will permanently damage the internal spring and piston, and shorten its service life.
Conduct personnel training and unify operating standards
Laboratory personnel need to be familiar with the operation manual of Gilson pipettes to avoid equipment wear and tear due to differences in operating habits. Regular training on operating procedures can be organized.
Timely replacement of vulnerable parts
The sealing ring, suction rod and other vulnerable components have an aging cycle. It is recommended to replace them every 1-2 years according to the frequency of use to prevent leakage or decreased accuracy caused by component aging, which may indirectly damage the pipette core.
