Timely resolution of faults in the universal testing machine for metal materials is the key to ensuring data accuracy
Date: 2025-12-15Read: 1

The universal testing machine for metal materials is the core equipment for evaluating the mechanical properties of materials such as tensile, compressive, and bending, and is widely used in quality inspection, research and development, and production fields. The test results directly affect product design and safety assessment. However, in high-frequency use, abnormalities often occur due to improper operation, lack of maintenance, or environmental factors. Timely identification and scientific handling of issues with metal material universal testing machines are key to ensuring data accuracy and equipment lifespan.

1、 Abnormal force value display or poor repeatability
Reason: Load sensor is overloaded due to impact, loose wiring, and not calibrated regularly; The fixture slips, causing the sample to slip.
Solution: Avoid over range testing (usually not exceeding 80% of full range); Check if the sensor connection wire is oxidized or loose; Calibration of force values is conducted annually by metrology institutions; Select appropriate clamping surfaces (such as toothed, V-shaped, or hydraulic fixtures) based on the material of the sample, and add pads to prevent slipping if necessary.
2、 Unstable movement or abnormal noise of the crossbeam
Reason: Oil shortage and dust accumulation in the screw/guide rail; Loose transmission belt or abnormal motor drive.
Solution: Clean the guide rail regularly (every 3 months) and add special lubricating grease; Check the tension of the belt and adjust it according to the instructions; If accompanied by shaking or pauses, it is necessary to troubleshoot the servo motor encoder or driver.
3、 Inaccurate deformation measurement (extensometer issue)
Reason: The extensometer was not installed correctly, the cutting edge was worn, and the gauge length was set incorrectly.
Solution: Ensure that the extensometer blade is pressed vertically onto the parallel section of the specimen, with moderate tightness; Regularly replace worn blades; Before testing, accurately input the gauge value in the software and perform zero point calibration. It is recommended to use a non-contact video extensometer for high-precision testing.
4、 Abnormal fracture location of the specimen (such as at the clamping end)
Reason: Sample processing defects (too small transition fillet), poor alignment, and excessive clamping force causing stress concentration.
Solution: Standardize sample preparation (in accordance with GB/T228 or ASTME8 standards); Use automatic centering devices or manual fine-tuning to ensure axial force distribution; Optimize the clamping pressure to prevent slipping and avoid crushing the sample.
