What are the key points of using a solar simulator
Date: 2025-05-26Read: 1
The solar simulator is a core device that simulates solar conditions through artificial light sources, and is widely used in fields such as photovoltaic device testing, material photocatalytic research, and environmental simulation. Its use requires consideration of optical performance, stability, and safety. The following provides a detailed explanation from the aspects of equipment composition, operating procedures, parameter adjustment, and maintenance points.
1、 Core components and functions of the equipment
1. Light source system
-Xenon lamp or LED array: Xenon lamp simulates solar spectrum with good continuity (covering UV-IR bands), suitable for high-precision testing; LED arrays have a long lifespan and low energy consumption, but require multi-color combinations to achieve spectral matching.
-Filter group: Correct spectral distribution, such as the AM1.5G standard, which requires the use of infrared filters to attenuate excess radiation in the near-infrared band of xenon lamps.
-Uniformity system: using integrating sphere, honeycomb grating or lens group to optimize the uniformity of light intensity, with a typical uniformity requirement of ± 5% (area ≥ 20cm × 20cm).
2. Control system
-Radiation intensity regulation: Xenon lamp brightness is controlled by current/voltage regulation or pulse width modulation (PWM) to control LED arrays, typically ranging from 10-1500 W/m ².
-Temperature monitoring: Equipped with PT100 or thermocouple sensors to monitor the temperature of the device cavity in real time, preventing light source attenuation caused by overheating.
-Spectral calibration module: Some devices are equipped with monochromators or spectrometers for real-time monitoring of spectral matching.
3. Auxiliary components
-Cooling system: Water or air cooling devices maintain the temperature of the light source chamber, and the operating temperature of the xenon lamp needs to be controlled below 80 ℃.
-Sample clamping table: adjustable tilt angle and position, some devices support four-dimensional movement (X/Y/Z axis+rotation), suitable for samples of different sizes.
-Protective shading board: To prevent scattered light interference, it is necessary to cover non illuminated areas during testing.
2、 Operation process and key steps
1. Preparation before startup
-Environmental inspection: Ensure laboratory temperature is 25 ± 3 ℃, humidity is ≤ 60%, and avoid condensation on optical components.
-Circuit connection: Check the water level, gas circuit (if protective gas needs to be blown), and power grounding of the water cooler to avoid the risk of high voltage leakage of xenon lamps.
-Preheating program: Preheat for 10-15 minutes after turning on the light source to ensure stable xenon lamp emission and avoid initial fluctuations in light intensity.
2. Parameter calibration
-Radiation intensity calibration: Use a calibrated reference silicon cell (such as ASTM E927 standard) to adjust the light intensity to the target value (such as 1000 W/m ² ± 2%).
-Uniformity verification: Place the detector array on the sample plane, scan the intensity distribution of the light spot, and adjust the focal length of the homogenizer or the position of the light source if necessary.
-Spectral matching: Compare the standard solar spectrum (such as ASTM G173), adjust the filter or LED driving current to ensure that the deviation in the 400-1100nm band is less than 15%.
3. Test execution
-Sample positioning: Fix the sample at the center of the light spot, use laser indication or CCD imaging to confirm the position, and the tilt angle error should be<± 0.5 °.
-Dynamic monitoring: Real time recording of light intensity and temperature data, photovoltaic testing requires synchronous collection of IV curves; The stability of light intensity is rechecked every 30 minutes during long-term experiments.
-Intermittent mode control: When simulating natural light cycles, set a gradient program for light intensity (such as linear rise and fall to the set value within 1 second) to avoid sudden impact on the sample.
4. Shutdown maintenance
-Gradually turn off the light source: first reduce the power to 50% and run for 5 minutes, then turn it off to prevent the xenon lamp from suddenly cooling and breaking.
-Cleaning and maintenance: Wipe the integrating ball window with a dust-free cloth and check if the filter is aging or discolored (if the glass filter turns yellow, it needs to be replaced).
-Data backup: Export test parameters (light intensity, spectrum, temperature and humidity) and sample data, and archive for at least 3 years.
3、 Common Problems and Solutions
1. Excessive fluctuation of light intensity
-Reason: Xenon lamp arc drift, insufficient flow rate of water cooler, power ripple interference.
-Countermeasure: Increase the voltage regulator power supply, clean the cold water filter, and regularly replace the xenon lamp (with a lifespan of about 500-1000 hours).
2. Spectral mismatch
-Reason: Filter angle deviation, LED array wavelength drift, light source aging.
-Countermeasure: Calibrate the spectrometer every quarter, mark the installation sequence of the filter, and establish a light source aging compensation model.
3. Decreased uniformity
-Reason: Peeling of the integrating sphere coating, contamination of the uniform lens, and interference from sample reflection.
-Countermeasure: Clean the inner wall of the integrating sphere, adjust the sample reflectivity (such as coating with black matte paint), and replace the smoothing component if necessary.
4、 Safety protection and long-term maintenance
-Protective measures: Wear UV protective goggles and do not look directly at light sources; Regularly check the sealing of the shielding cover to prevent laser leakage.
-Periodic maintenance: Check the water cooling pipeline and air interface every month; Calibrate spectra and light intensity every six months; Replace vulnerable parts (such as filters and seals) during annual maintenance.
-Exception handling: In case of sudden decrease in light intensity, abnormal noise, or burnt smell, immediately turn off the power and investigate issues such as xenon lamp leakage and short circuit.
