Mastering the correct use of explosion-proof digital dust detectors is the key to ensuring the health and safety of personnel and operations
Date: 2025-11-17Read: 1

Explosion proof digital dust detector is a professional equipment used for real-time monitoring of inhalable particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5) or total dust concentration in the air in flammable and explosive environments such as coal mines, oil depots, chemical plants, and dust workshops. Its intrinsic safety design (ExibIICT4 level) allows for safe operation in hazardous locations where methane, coal dust, or organic solvent vapors are present. However, improper operation not only affects the accuracy of data, but may also pose security risks. Mastering the correct usage of explosion-proof digital dust detectors is the key to ensuring personnel health and operational safety.

1、 Preparation before use: Environmental assessment and equipment inspection
Confirm explosion-proof level matching: verify whether the explosion-proof mark of the instrument (such as ExibIIBT4) is applicable to the current work area (such as underground coal mines that require MA certification);
Check the battery level and calibration status: Ensure that the battery is fully charged (recommended>80%) and confirm that the instrument is within the effective calibration cycle (usually 6-12 months);
Clean the sampling head and filter membrane: replace the clean filter membrane (if configured), use a soft brush to remove dust residue from the air inlet to prevent blockage;
Preheating and zero calibration: Preheat the machine in clean air for 3-5 minutes and perform automatic or manual "zero calibration" to eliminate baseline drift.
2、 On site operation standards
Proper wearing and placement:
When monitoring personal exposure, fix the instrument at the height of the breathing belt (1.5m above the ground), with the air inlet facing upwards, to avoid clothing obstruction;
During regional monitoring, place it in a representative location away from local dust sources or areas with strong airflow interference.
Start sampling:
Set sampling mode (continuous/timed), flow rate (usually 2.0L/min), and recording interval;
Ensure that the sampling pipeline is free of bends and tightly connected without air leakage.
Real time monitoring:
Observe the concentration value displayed on the screen. If it suddenly rises to the warning threshold (such as 10mg/m3), evacuate immediately and investigate the source of the leak;
Avoid prolonged use in high humidity (>90% RH) or oil mist environments to prevent sensor contamination.
3、 Post use processing
Power off: After sampling is complete, turn off the power and unplug the sampling head;
Cleaning and drying: Wipe the outer shell with non-woven fabric and place the sampling chamber in a dryer for dehumidification;
Data export and archiving: Export concentration curves, peak values, and TWA values via USB or Bluetooth to generate compliance reports;
Charging and storage: Use the original explosion-proof charger to charge and store in a dry, cool, non corrosive gas special box.
