Powder Tapped Density Tester is an instrument used to measure the tap density of powder or granular materials. The tap density is the density of a powder when its volume is reduced to its minimum state under vibration or slight pressure. This density value is very important for quality control in industries such as pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and food, and can help evaluate the flowability, packaging density, compressibility, and other properties of powders.
The density detection method of powder compaction density meter:
Instrument preparation
Sample container: A standard measuring cylinder or bottle is usually used, with a known volume, and the material and shape of the container should meet the specified requirements.
Powder sample: The powder sample to be tested needs to be prepared in advance to ensure that the sample is uniform and to remove any possible clumping.
Vibration table: Powder compaction density meters are usually equipped with a vibration platform or automatic device that can vibrate the sample at a fixed time and frequency.
Sample loading
Take an appropriate amount of powder sample, usually by weighing a certain mass of powder (e.g. 10g, 20g, etc.) and then placing it into a measuring container.
In order to reduce deviations during the sample loading process, it is usually done by gently tapping or shaking the container to evenly distribute the powder and reduce voids.
Initial volume measurement before testing
Before the vibration or compaction process, measure the initial volume of the powder in the container, usually the volume that has not been subjected to vibration. This volume value is V0, which can be determined by liquid drainage method (displacement method) or measuring the geometric volume of the container.
Vibration process
Place the sample container onto the vibration table of the compaction density meter. Instruments usually automatically control the frequency and time of vibration.
During the vibration process, the powder particles will gradually arrange tightly, and the gaps will decrease, resulting in a reduction in the volume of the sample.
Standard testing conditions:
Vibration frequency: usually around 250 times per minute.
Vibration frequency: usually a fixed frequency (such as 500, 1000, etc.) to ensure that the powder can be fully compacted.
Measure the volume after compaction
After the compaction operation is completed, the volume of the powder will decrease. At this point, recording the volume of the sample after vibration is commonly referred to as Vf (volume after vibration).
repeated test
According to standard operating procedures, multiple vibration measurements (e.g. 3 times) are usually conducted to ensure the accuracy of the results. The compacted volume value after each test can be used to calculate the average value and obtain a more reliable compacted density.
Record and analyze
Record the vibration density results of each test, and if necessary, further analyze their changing trends, such as whether the powder density reaches a stable value with increasing vibration frequency.
The significance of vibration density:
Liquidity and Stackability: The tap density can reflect the stacking characteristics of the powder. High tap density usually means that the powder particles are small and uniform, with good flowability.
Compressibility: High compaction density powders are relatively stable during loading and transportation, and are less prone to volume expansion.
Product stability: For industries such as pharmaceuticals and food, tap density can reflect the possible changes in powder during processing, helping to control product consistency and quality.
Summary:
The powder compaction density meter compacts the powder sample by vibration, measures the volume after compaction, and then calculates the compaction density. Compaction density is an important property of powder or granular materials, commonly used to evaluate the flowability, stacking ability, compressibility, and other characteristics of powders. The testing method for tap density is simple and fast, and is a commonly used quality control tool in many industries.
