Operation steps of static friction coefficient tester
Date: 2025-10-31Read: 0
Static friction coefficient testerUsed for quickly testing the static friction coefficient values of tiles, stones, and other surfaces to determine whether the ground or sidewalk is safe, it is of great help in evaluating the anti slip ability of the ground.
Operation steps:
Make all necessary preparations before operation, clean the sensor thoroughly, and gently lay down the slide gauge to prepare for formal testing. Attach a chain of nylon thread to the end shaft of the instrument. Use two fingers to pull the silk thread, with the rest of the hand perpendicular to the hook, and the thread must be straightened. Hook the loop of the wire with your index finger, curl your index finger and pull the slider, then read the data displayed on the slider. Then press the reset button twice and repeat the above testing method in four vertical directions until a safe value is sampled and recorded. An abnormal value, either high or low, must be discarded and another value must be re measured. The Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) jointly adopt a static friction coefficient of 0.50 or higher, both of which provide standards for safe surfaces.
Notes:
Before and after each use, clean the sensor regularly by sanding with sandpaper and sweeping with a brush (cyclic testing) to prevent the accumulation of dust from the measuring surface during each measurement.
Operating procedure:
Step 1: Install the instrument with three sensors, complete the polishing and cleaning of the sensor foot pads, and then gently place the instrument on the surface of the testing area.
Step 2: Select the test surface status from the blue button on the right: Dry or Wet.
Step 3: Press the blue left button (Test (+)/Write) once, and the "+" symbol will appear on the left side of the screen. Press this test button twice.
Step 4: Remove the tension nylon thread assembly, with one end having an S-shaped hook attached to the tension shaft below the instrument, the other end having a circular ring bent and hooked by the index finger, and the remaining four fingers bent and clenched, slowly straightening the nylon thread. The control line should be straight and horizontal. Use the middle ring index finger, slowly curl the index finger towards the palm direction, and steadily pull until the instrument starts to move. At this point, pay attention to the reading changes on the screen. When the instrument moves, the reading will stop and record the test data when it reaches a high static friction coefficient. Press the Test/Write button twice and repeat the process while recording the test data.
