The space charge testing system is a specialized equipment used to measure the internal space charge distribution of dielectric materials (polymers, insulating oils, cable insulation layers, etc.). Space charge refers to the non-equilibrium charge accumulated inside insulating materials under the action of an electric field, which can affect the electrical properties of the material and even cause partial discharge, aging, or breakdown. Therefore, accurate measurement of space charge is of great significance for the research and development, quality control, and life evaluation of high-voltage insulation materials.

Mechanism of Space Charge Generation

Injecting charges: electrodes inject electrons or holes into the medium;

Impurity ion migration: Residual ions in materials move and aggregate under an electric field;

Dipole oriented polarization: Although it does not form a net charge, it can affect the distribution of the electric field;

Trap trapping: Carriers are trapped by trap energy levels in the material, forming local charge accumulation.
