Structure and optical component maintenance of argon ion laser
Date: 2025-11-21Read: 1
The argon ion laser uses inert gas argon ions (Ar ⁺) as the working substance, ionizes and excites argon atoms through direct current discharge or pulse discharge, achieves stimulated emission between ion levels, and then amplifies the output laser through a resonant cavity.
structure
Laser tube: made of quartz material, with built-in anode (tantalum/tungsten material) and cathode (aluminum/barium material), and a pressure of 0.1-1Pa inside the tube, it is the core component for laser generation;
Resonant cavity: flat concave or flat flat cavity structure, mirror coating (for specific wavelength high reflection), output mirror transmittance of 10%~30% (adjustable as needed);
Incentive power supply: DC high-voltage power supply (5-15kV) or RF power supply (13.56MHz), providing discharge energy and controlling output power stability;
Cooling system: water-cooled (high-power models, cooling water temperature of 20-25 ℃) or air-cooled (low-power models) to avoid performance degradation caused by overheating of the laser tube;
Control system: Built in power feedback module, temperature monitoring, fault alarm (overcurrent/overheating/abnormal air pressure), supports external signal control (analog/digital).
The maintenance of argon ion lasers should focus on the cooling system, cleaning of optical components, maintenance of gas pipelines, and regular calibration to ensure stable operation and extend the service life of the equipment.
Cooling system maintenance
Water quality management: Regularly replace deionized water (conductivity should be ≤ 32 μ S/cm), check the color change of the ion exchange column, and replace it immediately if it is dark brown. ‌
Antifreeze and anti condensation: Antifreeze solution should be injected in low-temperature environments to avoid cooling water freezing or condensation on the surface of the focusing chamber, which can cause damage to YAG crystals. ‌
Optical component maintenance
Cleaning frequency: For daily use, it is necessary to check the focusing lens and reflector lens weekly, and wipe them with a dust-free cotton swab and 99% alcohol to avoid fiber residue. ‌
Lens protection: Apply moisture-proof silicone grease after cleaning, and seal the optical path window with a dust cover when it is idle for a long time.
