Shenzhen University of Technology was officially established in November 2018 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It is the third undergraduate university founded by the Shenzhen Municipal Government and an applied undergraduate university with a high starting point and high standards in Guangdong Province and Shenzhen City. The school draws on advanced educational models and successful experiences from countries such as Germany and Switzerland, adheres to the educational philosophy of "application-oriented, innovation driven, and open integration", and strives to build an applied technology university. The school has been selected as a provincial master's degree granting project construction unit, a provincial new round of "strengthening and enhancing" characteristic university upgrading plan, and a "high-level university" construction plan in Shenzhen. The admission line for physics majors within the province has consistently ranked among local universities in Guangdong. The implementation rate of graduates' destinations remains above 90%, with some graduates being hired by domestic and foreign companies such as Huawei, Tencent, BYD, Samsung, and others, and some graduates being admitted to domestic and foreign universities such as Tsinghua University and Yale University for further studies.

The school is located in Pingshan District, Shenzhen, covering an area of 891 acres with a total construction area of 1.05 million square meters. At present, there are 17 colleges and 40 majors, with over 14500 undergraduate students and more than 1100 master's and doctoral students enrolled. There are currently more than 870 full-time teachers, including 116 professors and 235 associate professors. There are also over 400 high-level talents at or above the city level, and 15 of them have been selected for the top 2% list of global scientists; Among full-time teachers, 83% hold doctoral degrees, 56% have overseas study or research experience, and 40% have experience in enterprise research and development.
