In the biological laboratory, the mini mixer has become a key tool for sample processing due to its compact and efficient characteristics. The following practical tips are provided from three aspects: operation optimization, scene adaptation, and maintenance:
1、 Operation optimization: precise control of mixing parameters
Speed and time matching: Adjust the speed according to the viscosity of the sample. For example, during DNA extraction, low speed (500-1000rpm) can avoid shear force damage to large molecules; The preparation of cell suspension requires high rotational speed (2000-3000rpm) to ensure uniform distribution. In terms of time setting, micro samples (such as 0.2mL centrifuge tubes) can be mixed evenly in 10-30 seconds, while large volume samples (such as 50mL test tubes) need to be extended to 1-2 minutes.
Mode selection:
Continuous mode: suitable for samples that require continuous mixing, such as enzyme reaction system preparation, which can avoid concentration stratification caused by pauses;
Intermittent mode: For temperature sensitive samples (such as protein solutions), intermittent mixing can be used, working every 30 seconds and pausing for 10 seconds to prevent local overheating.
2、 Scenario adaptation: Multi functional adapter and container selection
Adapter matching: Mini mixers are usually equipped with multiple adapters that are compatible with 0.2-50mL microtubes, Eppendorf tubes, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay plates, etc. For example, when processing a 96 well plate, choosing a flat plate adapter can ensure that all hole positions are mixed synchronously and avoid edge effects.
Container stability: Before placing the container, check if the mixing platform is flat to avoid tipping over during high-speed operation. For samples that are prone to splashing (such as solutions containing surfactants), covered containers or reduced rotational speed can be used.
3、 Maintenance and upkeep: Extend equipment lifespan
Daily cleaning: Wipe the mixing platform and adapter with 70% ethanol after use to prevent cross contamination. If the sample splashes into the movement, immediately power off and contact for repair.
Regular calibration: Check the accuracy of the speed every 3 months, and compare the set value with the actual value using a speedometer. If the deviation exceeds 5%, adjust the motor parameters.
Shockproof and moisture-proof: Mini mixers often use suction cup type machine feet. When placing them, it is necessary to ensure that the tabletop is smooth (such as a glass tabletop) to avoid vibration affecting the mixing effect. When not in use for a long time, it should be stored in a dry environment to prevent the motor from getting damp and short circuiting.
