Maintenance Techniques for Electric Energy Meters
Date: 2025-12-18Read: 20

1. Cleaning and maintenance of measuring instruments

According to statistics, 25% of electric energy meter failures are caused by transportation and other reasons, and over 70% are caused by improper maintenance. This requires maintenance personnel to be "attentive, discerning, and skillful". The maintenance of the measuring instrument can be carried out through overall inspection, disassembly and cleaning, as well as component inspection, repair and replacement.

① Overall inspection

After removing the nameplate of the caliper, observe obvious faults such as component detachment, frame deformation, gear breakage, etc. Observe the degree of oil contamination, especially for faults such as stuck characters, jumping characters, and not carrying during operation, which require careful observation.

② Disassembly and cleaning of measuring instrument

When disassembling, pay attention to the placement of components, avoid being too messy, and strictly prevent parts from falling off; Avoid mixing parts of measuring instruments with different constant models.

Nowadays, metal measuring instruments are rarely used. Depending on the specific situation, they can be washed with gasoline or a mixture first, then wiped with a dry and clean silk cloth or washed with water before drying. The plastic gauge cannot be washed with gasoline. A general synthetic detergent can be used. After dilution, gently brush each part with a brush, then rinse with clean water, rinse with warm water, air dry or blow dry: do not use the method of preparing the mixture in the past. Use a commonly used wooden toothpick to clean the dirt on the holes of the caliper frame.

③ Component inspection, repair, and replacement

Generally, the handwriting on the wheel is unclear, gear teeth are broken, and the machine is deformed at a glance, but the bending of the shaft is difficult to observe. A standard shaft can be selected and twisted together with the inspected shaft to observe the changes in the gap. The bent shaft is not easily twisted. After removing minor rust with "0" sandpaper, wipe with a cloth dipped in gauge oil. Iron, copper, and aluminum gears can be corrected with a screwdriver or small knife after tooth misalignment occurs. Gears and shaft sleeves with broken teeth or severe wear must be replaced if the tightening ring is damaged. The burrs on the gear wheel carrying wheel should be cleaned with a scraper.

2. Maintenance of upper bearings

If the steel needle and shaft tip in the upper bearing are rusted or worn, they must be replaced. If the steel needle is loose or skewed, it should be inserted into a dedicated mold and welded firmly or knocked tightly, and then the solder and flux on top should be cleaned. Special tool: Use commercially available steel ballpoint pen cores, remove the tip after use, clean the inner hole, then heat on an alcohol lamp for 3 to 5 minutes and quench in water to enhance its hardness. For magnetic suspension bearings, the inspection of their ferromagnetic adsorbates should be the focus, and the maintenance quality should meet the requirements of the regulations.
