How to determine if a centrifuge is suitable for cell washing
Date: 2025-10-31Read: 1
Touchscreen cell washing centrifugeUsually equipped with a large screen true color LCD display, supporting full touch screen operation, it can quickly set working programs, centrifugal force, speed, centrifugal time and other parameters, and support one click switching between speed and centrifugal force. Some models also have differential centrifugation (DCT) application technology, which can preset multiple working programs for easy calling.
To determine whether a centrifuge is suitable for cell washing, it is mainly necessary to pay attention to core parameters such as its speed range, relative centrifugal force (RCF), rotor type, temperature control capability, and safety:
Rotation speed and relative centrifugal force (RCF): Cell washing usually belongs to the category of low-speed centrifugation, with a rotation speed generally between 300-2000 × g. Low rotation speed may not effectively separate cells from supernatant, while high rotation speed may cause damage to cells. Therefore, the centrifuge should be able to provide a stable and precisely adjustable speed, and ensure that sufficient centrifugal force can be generated at the target speed.
Rotor type: Angle rotor is a commonly used choice for cell washing, which allows cell sediment to slide along the tube wall to the bottom, facilitating rapid collection. Ensure that the centrifuge is equipped with a rotor that is suitable for your commonly used centrifuge tube specifications.
Temperature control capability: Some cell washing processes require a low-temperature environment to prevent a decrease in cell activity. Therefore, a centrifuge with refrigeration function and precise temperature control is a better choice.
Safety and stability: Centrifuges should have a good balance system and imbalance protection function, which is the key to ensuring experimental safety and avoiding cell sample resuspension or equipment damage. In addition, stable operation can ensure the repeatability of separation efficiency.
