Cosmetics physical property tester: making "skin feel" measurable and replicable
Date: 2025-12-19Read: 39
The descriptions of "light", "silky", "non sticky" are common in cosmetics claims, but have long lacked objective standards.Cosmetic physical property testerBy means of mechanics, rheology, and tribology, abstract "skin feel" is transformed into quantifiable and traceable technical parameters, promoting formula development from experience to science.
1、 The core testing dimensions include:
Consistency and hardness: Use a cylindrical probe to perform compression testing on the cream to obtain penetration force (g or N), reflecting the "heaviness" of the product;
Ductility: Simulate the application process by squeezing or scraping parallel plates, measure the required force for spreading, and the lower the value, the easier it is to push away;
Adhesion and cohesion: Record negative forces during the probe retraction phase to evaluate the persistence and film-forming strength of the product on the skin;
Friction coefficient: Using biomimetic skin probe sliding test to quantify "smoothness", directly related to consumer experience.
For example, the physical property curve of a liquid foundation that claims "matte makeup holding" should show high cohesion (not easy to remove makeup), low adhesive residue (easy to remove makeup) and moderate friction coefficient (smooth but not slippery on makeup).

2、 Widely applicable scenarios:
Formula screening: Quickly compare the effects of different emulsifiers, silicone oils, or polymers on texture;
Batch consistency control: Set upper and lower limits for key physical parameters to ensure consistent experience of mass-produced products;
Claiming support: providing experimental data endorsement for marketing slogans such as "24-hour makeup free" and "one touch hydration";
Alternative sensory evaluation: reduce reliance on subjective group testing, lower costs and cycles.
With consumers' increasingly refined demands for experience, physical property testing has become a standard configuration in the international beauty research and development system. In the future, by combining AI and big data, the "skin sensation database" for cosmetics will accelerate the development of personalized products, truly achieving a precise experience of "thousands of people, thousands of faces".
