1、 Core Measurement Principles
The AG-500 ultrasonic thickness gauge is based on the propagation characteristics of ultrasonic waves to achieve thickness measurement. Its core logic is to calculate the round-trip propagation time of ultrasonic waves in the measured material and derive the thickness value by combining the sound velocity of the material.
During measurement, the ultrasonic pulses generated by the probe will pass through the coupling agent and act on the surface of the measured object. Some of the ultrasonic signals will be reflected by the bottom surface of the measured object and received by the probe. The instrument accurately captures the time period of ultrasonic round-trip propagation, calculates the thickness according to the following formula, and displays the result: H=(vxt)/2
Among them, H is the measured thickness, v is the sound velocity of the tested material, and t is the propagation time of ultrasonic waves in the specimen for one round trip.
This principle enables the instrument to be applicable for thickness measurement of various ultrasonic conductive materials such as metals, plastics, ceramics, glass, etc., meeting the measurement needs in different scenarios.
2、 Key work processes
(1) Signal transmission and reception
As the core component of signal transmission and reception, the performance of the probe directly affects the measurement effect. The instrument can be equipped with probes of different frequencies and chip sizes to meet the needs of different materials, thicknesses, and measurement environments. The emission and reception of ultrasonic pulses rely on coupling agents to achieve sound energy transmission, ensuring stable signal transmission. The coupling status prompt function of the instrument can assist operators in confirming the coupling effect.
(2) Sound speed adaptation mechanism
The material sound velocity is a key parameter for thickness calculation, and the AG-500 supports a wide range of sound velocity adaptation from 1000 to 9999m/s, covering the sound velocity range of common metal and non-metal materials. At the same time, the instrument has a dynamic sound velocity measurement function, and the operator can input a standard part of known thickness to obtain the actual sound velocity of the measured workpiece through dynamic scanning. Combined with the known thickness reverse measurement of sound velocity, the measurement accuracy is further improved.
(3) Data processing and presentation
The instrument adopts high-performance microprocessor technology, with a single point measurement cycle of up to 6 times per second, which can quickly complete data acquisition and calculation. After processing the measurement data, it is presented on a 128 * 64 high contrast LCD screen with high brightness EL backlight, making it easy to read in low light environments. At the same time, the instrument supports multiple data processing modes such as minimum reading capture, average measurement, limit measurement, and difference measurement to meet the analysis needs of different measurement scenarios.
3、 Auxiliary work characteristics
(1) Environmental adaptation design
The instrument has good environmental adaptability, with a working temperature range of -20 ℃~50 ℃, and strong resistance to vibration, impact, and electromagnetic interference. It can operate stably in harsh operating environments. Its compact and portable design (size 145mm × 74mm × 32mm, with a battery weight of approximately 245g) makes it easy to move and measure on site.
(2) Power management function
Powered by two No. 5 batteries, with a working time of no less than 30 hours, it has energy-saving functions such as automatic sleep mode and automatic shutdown. At the same time, it is equipped with a remaining battery level indicator and a battery low voltage prompt to ensure continuous measurement work.
(3) Calibration guarantee mechanism
The instrument supports automatic calibration of 4mm test blocks, as well as user-defined single point calibration and double point calibration modes, to ensure measurement accuracy meets technical standards through calibration. The buzzer will provide calibration and over limit prompts to assist operators in completing the calibration process.
